Charlotte 6, Arkansas 3 - Final

Jonah Patten was a little erratic with some pitches outside the zone, but he got the job done and the Razorbacks have a disappointing road loss to their record.

Grant Koch walked with no outs, but no more Razorbacks reached in the ninth. Carson Shaddy struck out looking a 2-2 pitch that appeared to be out of the zone, then Jax Biggers flied out to deep center and Eric Cole struck out swinging at a high fastball to end the game.

Patten earned his second save for the 49ers. Kole Ramage, who gave up the go-ahead hit in the seventh, took the loss for Arkansas. Colby Bruce was the winning pitcher with 2 1/3 scoreless innings.

Charlotte outhit Arkansas 9-7. The Razorbacks stranded eight runners. The 49ers improved to 12-8 overall, while the Razorbacks fell to 16-5.

Jax Biggers had two errors in the eighth, including a fielding error that gave the 49ers a run with two outs. Zebulon Vermillion appeared to have gotten out of the inning with a groundball to Biggers at shorstop, but the ball took a funny bounce off the turf and went up Biggers' arm.

The Razorbacks need a big ninth to avoid their fifth loss.

Charlotte 5, Arkansas 2 - Bottom 8th Inning

This one is getting away from the Razorbacks. Arkansas is on its fourth pitcher of the eighth inning after the 49ers have put five aboard with a hit, an error, a hit batter and two walks. The Razorbacks also have had a wild pitch and a throwing error by Grant Koch.

Luke Bonfield reached on a one-out single in the eighth, but Dominic Fletcher flied out to center and Jordan McFarland popped up to the first baseman in foul ground to end the inning. It will be up to Heston Kjerstad, Grant Koch and Carson Shaddy to keep the game going in the ninth.

Jake Reindl will pitch the bottom of the eighth for the Razorbacks.

Charlotte 3, Arkansas 2 - End 7th Inning

Charlotte has been good today with two outs and with runners in scoring position, and a two-out hit with a runner on second has given the 49ers the lead in the seventh.

Zack Smith reached on a nine-pitch at-bat against Kole Ramage, singling to right on a 3-2 pitch. Charlotte bunted Smith over. Hunter Jones appeared to bunt fair on a 0-1 pitch and Grant Koch forced out Smith at second, but the home plate umpire ruled Koch barehanded the ball in foul ground. Jones' next bunt attempt went back to Ramage, who appeared to have a chance for the force at second, but he went to first instead.

Tommy Bullock singled with two outs to score Smith. Eric Cole's throw to the plate was way off line. The inning ended when Koch caught Bullock trying to steal second.

It looked like Koch's ball would drop for a hit, but it was right at the shortstop.

Charlotte had three straight two-out hits against Bryce Bonnin in the bottom of the inning. Dominick Cammarata's RBI single to left scored Harris Yett. Zack Smith struck out on a 93 mph, 0-2 fastball on the outside corner to strand two 49ers.
