Arkansas beats Texas A&M to win series

Arkansas 3, Texas A&M 1 - Final

Texas A&M made it interesting in the ninth, putting three base runners aboard, but Barrett Loseke struck out Cole Bedford in three pitches to strand two Aggies. Loseke's final two pitches were clocked at 95 and 94 mph. Bedford swung at both.

Loseke picked up the save, his third of the season. The teams will play again tomorrow at noon.

Arkansas 3, Texas A&M 0 - End 8th Inning

Arkansas stranded two more in scoring position when Casey Martin grounded out to end the eighth. Jack Kenley was hit by a pitch and Eric Cole singled with two outs, and both advanced on a wild pitch.

The Razorbacks have stranded eight in scoring position. Arkansas is 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Barrett Loseke threw a wild pitch that allowed the runner to advance, but it didn't matter. He struck out Hunter Coleman and got pinch-hitter Will Frizzell to ground out to end the inning. He has not allowed a run in his past 12 2/3 innings.

Kacey Murphy's finale line: 7 1/3 innings, 0 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts. The innings pitched are a career high. He is in line for his sixth win.

Kacey Murphy's 111th pitch was an 88 mph strikeout of Texas A&M three-hole hitter Braden Shewmake. It was also his last pitch of the game. He left to a standing ovation.

Barrett Loseke will inherit a runner on first base with one out in the eighth. Cole Bedford reached on a leadoff single that went off Murphy's glove and was ruled a hit.

Two crucial plays by Texas A&M right fielder Chandler Morris allowed Arkansas to score twice in the seventh. Morris made the bad decision to try to throw out Casey Martin at third base, then misplayed a fly ball by Carson Shaddy that got blown around by the wind. Morris drifted back toward the fence, then had to charge and dive for the ball, which went off his glove.

Dominic Fletcher nearly homered in the next at-bat, but his fly ball was caught by Morris at the wall.

Both runs were charged to Texas A&M starter John Doxakis, who is in line for his fourth loss. His final line: 6 1/3 innings, 3 runs, 5 hits, 4 walks, 7 strikeouts.

Kacey Murphy, who has thrown 100 pitches, is back out for eighth for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks have chased John Doxakis after Casey Martin drew a walk and Heston Kjerstad singled with one out in the seventh. Kjerstad advanced to second base on a poor decision to throw by Texas A&M right fielder Chandler Morris.

Nolan Hoffman, the Aggies' closer, is coming into the game to face Luke Bonfield, who has an RBI chance here with Martin at third and one out.

Kacey Murphy has thrown an absolute gem for the Razorbacks. Two out of every three pitches has been a strike and he has given up three hits. He has four strikeouts and two walks.

This has been a great pitching matchup between left-handers Kacey Murphy and John Doxakis. Murphy just worked around a two-out single - the Aggies' third hit - to work his sixth scoreless inning. There is still no action in the Arkansas bullpen. Murphy has thrown 86 pitches, but only 28 over the past three innings.

Chandler Morris led off the fifth with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice groundout, but he was unable to score on a fly ball to center because of a strong throw from Dominic Fletcher. No. 3 hitter Braden Shewmake flied out in the next at-bat to end the inning.

Arkansas fans gave Fletcher a standing ovation as he walked off the field. He has made so many great defensive plays in center this year.

The Razorbacks are doing a good job of setting the table, but Texas A&M's great left-hander, John Doxakis, has been strong with runners in scoring position. He got Eric Cole to pop up to the infield for the second out and struck out Casey Martin to end the inning, stranding two more in scoring position. The Razorbacks have left five runners at second or third today.

Grant Koch and Jared Gates each drew walks to start the inning, and both advanced on a bunt by Jack Kenley. Doxakis have allowed five free passes today with three walks and two hit batters.

Kacey Murphy finally got his quick inning, working around a two-out error by Carson Shaddy to retire the Aggies in 11 pitches. George Janca struck out swinging at a 2-2 fastball to end the inning.

Heston Kjerstad led off with a double and advanced to third with one out, but he was out at third when Carson Shaddy hit a hot shot right at the Texas A&M third baseman, who tagged out Kjerstad while he was diving back to the bag.

The inning ended when Dominic Fletcher struck out for the second time today.

Kacey Murphy has had to throw a lot of pitches, but he has made the big pitch when needed. He just struck out Hunter Coleman looking to strand a runner at third base. Michael Helman walked on a 3-2 pitch to lead off the inning.

Carson Shaddy's two-out, two-strike RBI single scored Eric Cole from second base to put the Razorbacks ahead. Cole reached on a leadoff double.

Arkansas stranded two in the inning. Luke Bonfield was hit in the foot with a pitch before Shaddy's hit. They were both in scoring position when Dominic Fletcher struck out swinging to end the inning.

Kacey Murphy loaded the bases with one out, but got out of the inning unscathed thanks to a great defensive play and inning-ending fly out.

Casey Martin backhanded a hot shot by Chris Andristsos and forced a runner out at the plate for the second out. Grant Koch made a nice pick on the throw from Martin that was in the dirt.

Logan Foster flied out to right field in the next at-bat.

The Aggies loaded the bases with a single, hit by pitch and walk - all with one out. Arkansas coaches were not happy about the walk because it appeared Murphy had struck out Hunter Coleman on a 2-2 pitch. Tonight's home plate umpire Hank Himmanen is the same umpire who missed two calls at first base last night that were overturned.
