Diamond Hogs named regional host

Arkansas takes on Missouri State Monday, June 5, 2017, during the final game of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional at Baum Stadium in Fayetteville.

Arkansas was announced as one of 16 national seeds for the NCAA baseball regionals on Sunday.

The Razorbacks will have to wait a little while longer to learn whether they will be a top eight seed, which would keep them at Baum Stadium every game prior to the College World Series.

The top eight seeds and regional pairings will be announced during the NCAA's baseball selection show Monday at 11 a.m. on ESPNU. Arkansas (39-18) is expected to be a top eight seed after a regular-season in which had the nation's No. 3 RPI and No. 2 strength of schedule, according to WarrenNolan.com.

The Razorbacks are in the NCAA field for the 30th time and have been a top eight seed twice since the NCAA changed to its current format in 1999. Arkansas was the No. 8 national seed in 2004 and the No. 7 national seed in 2007.

Arkansas is hosting an NCAA regional for the seventh time since 1999 and for the second consecutive year. The Razorbacks failed to advance in four of their previous six home regionals, including last season when they lost 3-2 to Missouri State in the regional championship game.

Arkansas won its home regional in 2004 and 2010. It also won home super regionals in 2004 and 2015.

The Razorbacks are one of four Southeastern Conference teams that will host a regional this year, along with Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss.

Other regional hosts this year are: Stanford, Oregon State, Florida State, North Carolina, Texas Tech, Clemson, Texas, Coastal Carolina, Stetson, East Carolina, Minnesota and North Carolina State.
