Razorback target Franklin injured in season opener

Javon Franklin

— It was not the season opener Javon Franklin had in mind.

Franklin (6-6, 200), a 2019 Arkansas recruiting target and former Little Rock Parkview star, suffered a broken bone in his leg during Holmes (Miss.) Community College’s 88-75 win over Copiah-Lincoln on Thursday night.

Franklin was 3-of-3 from the field and had six points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 11 minutes of action before suffering the injury trying to take a charge, according to Holmes head coach Jason Flanigan.

“Another player fell on him as he was trying to take a charge,” Flanigan said Friday afternoon. “He suffered a broken bone in his leg. The only good thing about it is that it was a clean break so it won’t take as much rehab as it would if it was not a clean break.”

Franklin, who averaged 10.8 points and 8.2 rebounds last season, was taken to a local hospital, where he spent the night.

“I’m actually headed back up to the hospital right now,” Flanigan said. “He’s going to have surgery.”

Flanigan is not sure how long Franklin will be out.

“I think he will have some options and we’ll see how things go after the surgery,” Flanigan said.

Franklin has offers from Arkansas, Memphis, Missouri, Auburn, San Diego State and others, according to Flanigan.

Former El Dorado star Czar Perry, a transfer from Northwestern (La.) State, had 19 points and six assists in his Holmes debut.
