Gregory's gamble pays off big for Arkansas

Eric Gregory

— Former Memphis Central star and current IMG Academy defensive end Eric Gregory committed to Arkansas back in August without even seeing the campus.

Gregory (6-4, 270) finally got the chance to do that this weekend and remains a solid pledge to the Razorbacks, who have 20 commitments in a 2019 class ranked 14th nationally by Rivals.

“I came down here and started loving it even more,” noted Gregory, who visited along with Arkansas receiver commit and fellow early enrollee Shamar Nash. “I committed again. I loved everything about it. Everything.”

One of his highlights of the weekend was being in the Arkansas locker room before and after the game.

"Probably being in the locker room with the players and just hanging out with them after the game,” noted Gregory, a four-star prospect per ESPN.

Gregory chose Arkansas over Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and hometown Memphis, who he committed to in the spring before changing his mind.

Arkansas met the goal of what he was looking for, according to Gregory, who had 56 tackles, 16 for loss, and 12 sacks for Memphis Central as a junior.

"Oh yeah, it met my expectations very well,” Gregory said. “I loved it."

Gregory is part of a highly regarded group of seven defensive linemen that the Razorbacks have commitments from in the 2019 class.

That includes fellow official visitors this weekend in the Mansfield (Texas) Legacy duo of defensive end Taurean Carter (6-3, 260) and Arkansas defensive tackle pledge Enoch Jackson (6-0, 290).

"I've been talking to all of them,” Gregory said. “They’re some good boys."

IMG is 5-1 this season and ranked No. 3 nationally with its only loss to homestanding No. 1 Santa Anna (Calif.) Mater Dei (5-1), whose only blemish is a forfeit.
