Joe, Gafford shine in Red-White scrimmage

Arkansas center Daniel Gafford shoots the ball during an exhibition game Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, in Fayetteville.

Red 105, White 82 - FINAL

We had a running clock over the final 10 minutes of the second half and updates were a bit tough to get to while keeping my shot chart, which I will hopefully be able to share a bit later.

Isaiah Joe led all scorers with 31 on 9/14 from deep. Daniel Gafford added 24 and 12 rebounds. Osabuohien finished with 20 and Jalen Harris added 16 points and 10 assists to round out the highlights for Red.

Adrio Bailey and Mason Jones each poured in 22 apiece for White, and Desi Sills chipped in 16 points on 6/9 shooting and eight assists.

We will have much more from tonight's scrimmage a little bit later on.

Red 85, White 64 - 10:53 left

Joe is up to 28 points on 8/12 from 3. He finally missed from the left wing, which surprised most in the arena to be honest. Daniel Gafford's night is probably done. He's got 23 and nine rebounds on 11/16 from the floor.

Mason Jones and Adrio Bailey each have a team-high 17 for White. Desi Sills has 11 points to go with seven dimes.

Red 71, White 54 - 15:53 left

Isaiah Joe is putting on a shooting display tonight in his first action in front of Arkansas' fans. He is now 7/10 from 3 and has a game-high 23 points on just 12 total shots. Daniel Gafford is up to 19 points and seven boards. Jalen Harris now has nine assists to go with 10 points and a handful of rebounds.

Keyshawn Embery-Simpson got his first shot to fall early on in the second half. He's got such a smooth-looking jumper. Probably just getting some nerves out.

Red 56, White 43 - Halftime

Red team closed the half on a 13-2 run over the final 2:32 of the half and carry a double-figure lead into the break. Joe leads Red with 17 points on 5/8 from 3. He is one of three Red players in double digits - Osabuohien 11, Gafford 10.

Jones leads White with 17 as well and Adrio Bailey has 13 points on 5/11 from the floor. He's not been shy about letting the perimeter shot go. He is 1/4 on shots outside the lane tonight. Keyshawn Embery-Simpson had a bit of an off half. He was held scoreless and missed on all four of his first-half looks. He was a -17 when on the floor, according to Arkansas' statbroadcast system. Reggie Chaney has seven for White. He's looked good when his mind is made up to attack the rim. When he doesn't, he's been a bit unpredictable and loose with the ball. He has three turnovers.

Desi Sills has done some good things in the first half. He's not going to be much of a consistent scoring threat I don't think but he does have a couple of buckets to go with five assists - against one turnover - and two steals.

Osabuohien has 11 for Red, but he's done so on nine shot attempts. He's taken one 3 and another long 2. That's not really his game. He's better off working the interior and making himself available to driving guards. All four of his buckets have come at the rim. He should live running short corner to short corner.

Red 40, White 36 - 3:23 left first half

Jones continues to lead all scorers with 17 points. Desi Sills made a nice anticipation play defensively and picked off a Jalen Harris pinch post entry feed and finished with a layup on the other end. Harris, to go with his six assists, has five turnovers.

Among my other thoughts from this first half is that Ibby Ali still has a long way to go. He is 1/5 from the floor with most of his shots coming right at the rim. He also has two turnovers. He does not have sure hands right now, and looks a tad hurried on his touches.

Red 34, White 26 - 7:56 left first half

Mason Jones leads all scorers with 15 points, and Isaiah Joe now has 14 for Red on 4/7 from 3. His shot is among the smoothest I've seen. He's not shy about letting the 3 fly, and he shouldn't be. He and Jones have been fun to watch to this point.

Jalen Harris is up to six assists on the night. No other player has more than one.

Red 22, White 18 - 11:54 left first half

Mason Jones is the first player to crack double figures tonight. He has 11 just more than eight minutes in. He has buried one triple and scored three times at the rim. Isaiah Joe has a team-high eight points for the Red team on 2/5 from deep.

We're getting - finally - a chance to see the speed of Jalen Harris. It has already paid dividends for Red. He has four assists and is really setting up teammates nicely in transition. Penetrating and kicking effortlessly.

Red 15, White 8 - 15:57 left first half

Fort Smith Northside's own Isaiah Joe is leading all scorers with five at the first timeout of the game. He smoothly knocked down a 3 from the left wing and added the game's first bucket on an assist from Jalen Harris just three seconds in.

Daniel Gafford had a filthy put-back slam off his own missed shot. Jonathan Holmes is also on the board with a 3 of his own. Reggie Chaney made a very strong move to the bucket going right for his lone score so far.

Dunk contest

Daniel Gafford won the dunk contest fairly easily, beating out freshman forward Ethan Henderson. He sealed it with a casual between-the-legs throwdown.
