The Recruiting Guy

Coaches, TE play, facilities impress Texas prospect

Arkansas offensive analyst Will Bryant and 2020 TE Drake Dabney.

Junior tight end Drake Dabney made his way from the Houston area to take in Arkansas’ 23-0 victory over Tulsa and left impressed.

“I thought everything was great,” Dabney said. “The coaches, stadium, facilities, and how they used tight ends in the offense.”

Dabney, 6-6, 220 pounds of Cypress (Texas) Cy Ranch, has scholarship offers from Purdue, Louisville, Memphis and Toledo and is drawing interest from Arkansas, Texas and others.

Three different Arkansas tight ends had receptions and totaled four for 65 yards and a touchdown in the victory over Tulsa.

“I was impressed with the way they utilized the tight end,” Dabney said. “They were involved blocking and passing. Athletic tight ends that can run, catch and block like myself will fit well in their system.”

The highlight of the trip was mingling with the coaching staff.

“The excitement of the staff, and the fans and their commitment to getting Arkansas back on top,” Dabney said.

Dabney and Cy Ranch had an open date and that allowed him to arrive in Fayetteville on Friday. He’s communicating with offensive analyst Will Bryant.

“I am definitely interested in Arkansas and will keep in contact,” Dabney said. “He’s a great guy. I look forward to staying in contact with him.”

His mother and father also liked the trip.

“My parents were very impressed,” he said. “The atmosphere and Arkansas’ staff and facilities.”
