Arkansas-North Texas predictions

Arkansas vs Colorado State Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colo.

Clay Henry, Hawgs Illustrated

There were mistakes in all three phases, but the most glaring was the pass defense in the second half that led to four straight scoring drives to allow the CSU comeback. The defense must correct some of those issues. It might be another shootout. Cole Kelley might get his second start at quarterback. Arkansas, 32-31

Dudley E. Dawson, Hawgs Illustrated

There have been very few times in the long history of Hawgs Illustrated that I have picked a nonconference foe to beat Arkansas at home. While North Texas is not the 2006 USC team, it looks to have enough offense. North Texas can both run and throw the ball and has good special teams. Former Razorback kicker Cole Hedlund is 7-of-7 so far on field goals for the Mean Green. North Texas, 38-31

Matt Jones, WholeHogSports

I thought before the Colorado State game that North Texas would be the toughest non-conference opponent for Arkansas. Mason Fine and the Mean Green should put up a lot of yards, but perhaps last week’s collapse will get the Razorbacks’ attention this week. Arkansas, 41-32

Bo Mattingly, Sports Talk with Bo

North Texas might be better than Colorado State. While the Hogs are clearly still trying to figure out who they are, I think they’ll bounce back at home and win a close one. Arkansas, 38-31

Harry King, Hawgs Illustrated

Until the loss at Colorado State, the thinking was North Texas would compete for a half or more, but that Arkansas would win comfortably. That perception changed in light of the second-half failures in Fort Collins. Arkansas, 42-31

Scottie Bordelon, WholeHogSports

Arkansas should have another productive day running the football. The offensive line will get enough push to open holes for the backs. Still searching for answers at quarterback. Arkansas, 38-23

Tommy Craft, ESPN Arkansas

How does a Chad Morris team respond after a loss like last week? This type of game used to be an afterthought for Hog fans but after CSU, it feels like a must-win. Expect UNT to not go quietly. Arkansas, 38-36

Bart Pohlman, Sports Talk with Bo

Losing to a bad Colorado State team makes it hard to have confidence in Arkansas right now. North Texas is averaging 52 points a game and more than 450 yards passing, and whupped Chad Morris’ former SMU team in Week 1. Arkansas better figure out how to keep the ball moving and get in sync on offense in a hurry. North Texas, 34-31

Chip Souza, NWA Democrat-Gazette

North Texas looked really good against SMU. So what? I could get six guys and the neighborhood stray dog and look good against SMU. The question is, can Arkansas put a bad loss against Colorado State in its rearview mirror. The Razorbacks need to punch North Texas in the mouth early and control the clock with their run game. Arkansas, 31-24
