• You could feel the energy and the excitement. It's been that way around the office for about the last 10 days. We're a lot more comfortable in our environment and surroundings. A lot of great energy and excitement, and guys are really glad to be back around each other and around the staff.

• Thought we had a good Day 1. We'll come back tomorrow and have another good Day 1. We want to be 100 percent 100 percent of the time. Excited coming out of Day 1. We'll continue to strain them, as you do in fall camp.

• Quarterbacks: I was very impressed. They were all working together and very accurate. I was very impressed. The ball jumped out of all their hands well, and we pushed the ball down the field early in practice. Had some deep balls down the sideline, too.

• Starkel and KJ Jefferson: For a practice, I was pleased with KJ. He definitely had been working this summer, you could tell. Same with Nick. I was pleased with both of them. I think they're both well ahead of where I'd thought they'd be.

• You noticed a difference with Sosa in the spring. He added good weight. He's as strong as he's ever been and quick as he's ever been. He has high expectations for himself. Jonathan Marshall, he's explosive, and we've talked with him about now being his time. TJ Smith is one of the leaders on the team. We've got some depth at defensive line.

• On running backs: Everybody is an All-American when they're in shorts. You'll find out a lot about the running backs when you get to around Day 9. Everyone was getting reps today, and that's by design. We have to develop depth.

• Injuries, guys being held out: Everybody was healthy going into today. Noah Gatlin went down about 3/4 of the way through the day, and we'll reevaluate him again very soon.

• On buy-in: The guys last year didn't ask for a coaching change. I don't really want to go back on last year. Changes are tough on a young man. We've got to do the things in college football that everybody does, but do it better.

• On Treylon Burks, TQ Jackson and Hudson Henry: They were prepared and focused. For Day 1, I was pleased with those guys.

• We tell guys when we recruit them that we want you to be you. Trey Knox loves life. It's not a front. He's been smiling since the day he got here. His attitude is contagious and he gets everyone smiling. He's elevating guys in front of him. We have a lot of young guys doing that.

• On the way camp is set up: I wish we could have some 100 degree days. We're going to make sure we get our meetings in and bond together. You've got to have the five-day acclimatization period.

• On the offensive line: Losing the guys we did, the depth last year was an Achilles heel for us. I think that there's no doubt our offensive line will be better this year. There's competition, and we expect a guy like Ty Clary to step up and be a leader for us. Same with Colton Jackson.

• I think Gatlin's deal was a knee, but I'm not completely sure on that.

• Snaps, I thought, were good today. I didn't recognize anything I had to stop and blow the whistle over.

• I would rather name a starting quarterback sooner than later, but I'm not going to rush it.

• Cheyenne O'Grady made a couple of phenomenal catches today, and Chase Harrell did, too. We targeted the tight end quite a bit today, so they'll probably be happy tomorrow.
