Arkansas LB LaFrance enters the NCAA transfer portal

Arkansas linebacker Giovanni LaFrance goes through warmups prior to practice Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Fayetteville.

Arkansas’ depth at linebacker took a hit Thursday when one of its older players decided to leave the program.

Junior Giovanni LaFrance (6-1, 237 pounds), who played only eight snaps on defense last season and 45 on special teams in nine games, has entered the NCAA’s transfer portal after playing sparingly his first three years on campus, a team spokesperson confirmed.

LaFrance, a three-star prospect from St. Augustine High School in New Orleans, chose Arkansas over Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, California and others when he signed with the Razorbacks in 2016.

Rated the No. 1 inside linebacker in Louisiana in his class, LaFrance redshirted his first year on campus and played in two games with one tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2017.

A source said Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., is a potential landing spot for LaFrance.
