FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas basketball player Jonathan Holmes, a junior guard from Columbia, Ill., has been placed on scholarship.

A scholarship opened up on the roster this semester when freshman guard Jordan Phillips transferred in January from Arkansas to Texas-Arlington.

Arkansas basketball’s Twitter accounted posted video of Holmes learning after Thursday’s practice he had been placed on scholarship and being mobbed by his teammates in celebration.

Holmes has become a crowd favorite when he plays late in games with the Razorbacks comfortably ahead. He has played in three games this season.
