— Chandler Morris was named the Dallas-area offensive player of the year Thursday by the Dallas Morning News.

Morris, the son of Arkansas football coach Chad Morris, led Highland Park to a 16-0 record and 5A Division I state championship as a junior quarterback in 2018. Morris was named offensive MVP of the Scots' 27-17 win over Shadow Creek in the state title game at AT&T Stadium.

Morris completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 4,036 yards and 46 touchdowns, and rushed for 651 yards and 20 touchdowns in his first year as a starting quarterback. John Stephen Jones, a former Highland Park quarterback who now is a freshman at Arkansas, was the newspaper's 2017 offensive player of the year.

Morris has seven scholarship offers, including from Arkansas, Clemson, Oklahoma and Auburn. He told the Dallas Morning News that he will play his senior season at Highland Park, a high school in Dallas where his mother still lives.
