Highland Park's Corwin sees something special at Arkansas

Finnegan Corwin

— Highland Park’s Finnegan Corwin has never experienced a high school football season that didn’t end in a state championship.

Corwin (5-10, 165), a preferred walk-on candidate who had 77catches for 1,520 yards and 15 touchdown as a senior, took an official visit to Arkansas this weekend just over a month after helping the Scots to a 16-0 season, securing a third straight Class 5A Division I state title.

Corwin had 12 catches for 142 yards and a touchdown in this season’s championship game - a 27-17 win over Shadow Creek.

He caught passes from current Razorbacks quarterback John Stephen Jones during his first two high school campaigns and junior Chandler Morris, Arkansas head coach Chad Morris’ son, this season.

“Everyone here has been really nice,” Corwin said. “You couldn’t ask for better people to hang with, and seeing John Stephen again was a lot of fun. Just being able to hang out with him again because we became really close in high school.”

The younger Morris was in Fayetteville this weekend and spent time with Corwin and Highland Park wide receiver/kicker Hudson Clark, another Razorback preferred walk-on candidate.

“It is great every time I get to hang out with him,” Corwin said. “He is one of my best friends and to get to hang out with him here, where he knows everything, is a lot of fun.”

Corwin has preferred walk-on offers from Arkansas, SMU and Oklahoma.

“I know that I definitely want to play,” Corwin said. “I think I am going to SMU sometime next week and going to OU February 2. So after that I will definitely make a decision, but I know that Coach Morris is doing something special here and I definitely want to be involved if I can.”

Corwin doesn’t know how more highly recruited athletes get through the process, but does plan to have a decision by Feb. 6.

“I would say by signing day,” Corwin said. “It is a bit overwhelming. It’s a lot of fun, but definitely overwhelming. I don’t know how some of these guys do it with 30-plus offers as stressful as it is with school and everything. So I definitely want to do it by signing day.”

Corwin has a belief that he would see the field under Arkansas wide receivers Justin Stepp coach if he decides to come to Fayetteville.

“Coach Stepp and I have developed a good relationship and I think I can definitely play if I come here, and that would be great,” Corwin said. “But I am definitely fine with kind of waiting your turn, just getting to know the offense and just doing whatever your role on the team is what you need to do.”
