Arkansas beats Charlotte for 10th win

Arkansas 9, Charlotte 2 - Final

Carter Sells gave up two runs to break up the shutout. Liam Henry came out of the bullpen to close out the game.

The Razorbacks out-hit the 49ers 9-3 and committed an error. Arkansas will play again Friday night against Louisiana Tech.

Arkansas improved to 10-1. Charlotte fell to 6-6.

The game lasted 2 hours, 46 minutes.

Arkansas 9, Charlotte 0 - End 8th Inning

Casey Martin walked and Curtis Washington Jr. singled to lead off the inning, but Jordan McFarland, Matt Goodheart and Casey Opitz went down in order to strand two base runners. The Razorbacks have stranded eight.

Carter Sells, a freshman right hander from Tennessee, is on to pitch the ninth. This is his first career appearance.

Arkansas 9, Charlotte 0 - End 7th Inning

The Razorbacks stranded three in the seventh. Christian Franklin came to the plate with the bases loaded and needing a home run to hit for the cycle. He took two home-run cuts, then struck out looking at a fastball waist high and away.

Arkansas 9, Charlotte 0 - Bottom 7th Inning

Dominic Fletcher hit a two-run home run to right-center field. It scored Trevor Ezell, who reached on a walk.

The Razorbacks are out-hitting the 49ers 8-1.

Arkansas 7, Charlotte 0 - End 6th Inning

Casey Opitz and Jack Kenley walked, Jacob Nesbit had an RBI single, Christian Franklin tripled to score two runs and Franklin scored on a balk to break the game open in the sixth inning.

It looks like Arkansas will throw a reliever an inning apiece the rest of the way. Kevin Kopps is on the mound for the seventh.

Arkansas 3, Charlotte 0 - Bottom 6th Inning

Trevor Ezell led off the inning with a home run to right-center field. That is Ezell's third home run, which is tied for the team lead. He nearly hit another one earlier today, but lined out to the warning track in the first inning.

Arkansas 2, Charlotte 0 - End 5th Inning

The Razorbacks plated a run, but it could have been a lot more. Casey Martin and Heston Kjerstad both struck out with runners at second and third to end the inning.

Credit Charlotte right-hander Patrick Szczypinski for working around the jam that began when Trey Harris and Jack Kenley both singled to lead off the inning, and Christian Franklin doubled after a sacrifice bunt.

Kole Ramage is replacing Patrick Wicklander on the mound for the sixth. Wicklander is in line for the win after a really nice five-inning start in which he struck out eight, allowed one hit and worked around three leadoff walks.

Arkansas 1, Charlotte 0 - Middle 5th Inning

Patrick Wicklander has worked five scoreless innings, struck out eight batters and has thrown 76 pitches. It would not surprise to see him throw again in the sixth.

Wicklander has not allowed a base runner since issuing a leadoff walk in the third inning. He has really settled in and pitched well this afternoon.

Arkansas 1, Charlotte 0 - Middle 4th Inning

Patrick Wicklander worked his first perfect inning in the fourth. He worked around leadoff walks the first three innings, and a hit in the first. Wicklander has six strikeouts.

Arkansas had something going in the third when Christian Franklin led off with a single. But he was doubled up when shortstop Tommy Bullock made a great play to rob a line drive by Heston Kjerstad and threw Franklin out at first base.

Casey Martin also made a great play to start a double play in the third. Martin fielded a ball to his left, flipped the ball to Jack Kenley and Kenley made a good turn at second.

Arkansas 1, Charlotte 0 - End 2nd Inning

Dominic Fletcher and Casey Opitz both walked to lead off the second inning and advanced on a good sacrifice bunt by Trey Harris. Fletcher scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Kenley, but Opitz was stranded at third when Jacob Nesbit flied out to center field.

Arkansas doesn't have a hit today, but does have the lead.

Arkansas 0, Charlotte 0 - Middle 2nd Inning

Patrick Wicklander worked around two base runners in the first inning and a leadoff walk in the second. He has struck out three.

Arkansas went down in order in the bottom of the first. Trevor Ezell drove a ball to the wall with two outs, but it was caught at the warning track in right field.

It's still cool, but we finally have a nice day for baseball. The sun is shining and the wind is blowing in from the south, and the temperature in the mid 40s.
