Arkansas OL target Garrett Hayes taking his time

Garrett Hayes

— While many 2020 grid recruits are whittling down their list and planning on summer decisions, Athen, Texas, four-star offensive lineman Grarrett Hayes is in no hurry.

Hayes (6-5, 290 pounds), ranked as the 27th-best offensive lineman in the country, according to the 247Sports composite ratings, took his first official visit to Arkansas this weekend. He previously had taken unofficial visits to Fayetteville.

“It went good,” Hayes said. “I got to see the campus a lot more in detail. I got to be with the players and stuff. Hang out with the players and it was really good.”

He was impressed with how Arkansas set up his official and has thoughts on what he might major he might pursue in college, engineering or physical therapy.

“They did a great job,” Hayes said. “They're really organized and I really liked it."

Hayes was one of four Texas prep prospects among the five official visitors this weekend. He is a fan of Arkansas offensive line coach Dustin Fry.

“It’s really good,” Hayes said. “A good guy. I really like him.”

Hayes noted what he is looking for in a college choice.

“Really just the coaches and where I feel comfortable,” Hayes said. “Really just place I like the most that has the best academics and best program."

Hayes, who does not have any of his other four official visits set up yet, is looking at making a fall decision.

“This was my first visit,” Hayes said.

Arkansas was hopeful of getting him to commit early.

“Of course that's what every college does,” Hayes said. “It's going good. I haven't made a decision yet. I still have a lot more official visits to go on.”

Arkansas freshman offensive lineman Drew Vest, an early enrollee, was Hayes’ host.

“He had a hurt arm, but was still a good host,” Hayes said. “He told me a little more about the coaches deeper in general, like the way they coach and like how they are personally on a more personal level.”
