The Recruiting Guy

Hogs' offer intrigues speedy WR

Arkansas coach Chad Morris speaks to members of his offense Saturday, April 6, 2019, during the Razorbacks' spring game in Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

It appears the University of Arkansas will get a visit from speedy receiver Chris Carpenter, who recently received a scholarship offer from the Hogs.

Carpenter, 6-0, 165 pounds, of Jacksonville, Texas, also has offers from Oregon, Oklahoma State, Virginia, Arizona State, Colorado, Houston and others. The Razorbacks extended an offer last Tuesday.

"I didn't expect it," Carpenter said. "I was kind of excited."

Experiencing something different intrigues Carpenter.

"Getting out of Jacksonville and being around that kind of environment in Arkansas," Carpenter said.

Carpenter is also a standout in track and field. He runs a leg on the school's 400- and 800-meter relay teams. He has a best of 44 feet, 5 inches in the triple jump.

He made a big jump in the 200 as a junior.

"I ran a 22.4 as a sophmore, and this year I ran a 21.6 at the district meet," Carpenter said.

He recorded 31 receptions for 501 yards and 2 touchdowns, and 24 rushes for 255 yards and 3 touchdowns as a junior for the 3-7 Indians.

His description of his ability on the field shows up on his highlight video.

"I'm just quicker than most people, and I can adjust to the ball if I need to and high-point the ball, and I'm just faster than most people," he said.

Carpenter is looking to visit Arkansas in the near future.

"I will be visiting within the next month," he said.
