Arkansas' Bush enters transfer portal

Arkansas freshman cornerback Devin Bush, shown returning an interception for a touchdown during the Razorbacks’ spring game in April, plans to major in finance when classes begin in the fall. “I plan on having like an empire,” he said.

— Arkansas freshman defensive back Devin Bush announced Monday via Twitter that he is leaving the Razorbacks football program and entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Bush (6-0, 180 pounds), who was a highly recruited prep star from Edna Karr in New Orleans, chose Arkansas over Georgia, LSU, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State and others.

“After speaking with my parents and coaches, I’ve made the decision to officially enter the transfer portal,” Bush wrote. “Thank you (Arkansas head) Coach (Chad) Morris and staff for all you have done.”

Bush enrolled at Arkansas in January and went through spring practice. He intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown in the Red-White game in April. But he had played in just two games this season and played only 10 snaps, eight of which came against San Jose State and two against Ole Miss.

The Razorbacks, who signed six defensive backs in their 2019 class, do not have a secondary prospect pledged in the 2020 class. Jamie Vance, Bush’s former high school teammate, de-committed from Arkansas on Sept. 22.

Bush was the second defection of the day, joining junior linebacker D’Vone McClure (6-2, 219), who announced he had decided to step away from football to concentrate on academics and his family.

The Razorbacks have one linebacker committed in their 2020 class in Memphis Whitehaven star Martavius French (6-2, 240). French is scheduled to take an official visit to Arkansas this weekend along with a pair of teammates, linebacker Bryson Eason (6-3, 250) and linebacker/safety Tamarion McDonald (6-2, 220).
