Jeff Fletcher hit a game-winning three-run home run in the bottom of the 15th inning to give Arkansas an 8-7 victory over No. 4 South Carolina at Baum Stadium.

Fletcher, a senior who entered the game as a pinch hitter in regulation, ended a marathon that lasted 4 hours, 23 minutes. The game stood alone as the Razorbacks' longest in SEC regular-season play until Arkansas beat Auburn in 15 innings last year.

Prior to his game winner, Fletcher had only six home runs during his Razorback career.

"I'm not a home run hitter, so I was just thinking double in the gap or something when I came up," Fletcher said. "I just wanted to put a barrel on it."

Arkansas nearly won the game two hours earlier, but South Carolina's Yaron Peters hit a two-run home run with two outs in the ninth to tie the game 4-4. The Razorbacks led 4-1 entering the eighth inning.

South Carolina took the lead twice in extra innings. Trey Dyson's 14th-inning home run put the Gamecocks ahead 5-4, but Arkansas' Ryan Fox hit a two-out RBI single to send the game to the 15th. Fox finished the game 5-for-6 with 3 RBI.

Peters had a two-run single in the top of the 15th to give the Gamecocks a 7-5 lead before Fletcher's biggest collegiate swing.

Arkansas swept the series from South Carolina when the following day's game was canceled because of rain. The Gamecocks got revenge at the SEC Tournament the following month, defeating the Razorbacks 10-1 and 4-1.

South Carolina advanced to the College World Series in 2002, while Arkansas fell a win short of Omaha in Norm DeBriyn's final season as the Razorbacks' head coach.
