UA's Smith released from jail Published: Tuesday, September 25, 2007 PRINT E-MAIL A running back for the University of Arkansas football team has been released on $ 2, 500 bond from the Washington County Detention Center. Michael Lee Smith, 20, of 1652 Willowbrook Drive, Fayetteville, was released at about 5 p. m. Monday from the detention center. He faces charges of seconddegree forgery and theft by receiving. Smith, who is a sophomore from Tallahassee, Fla., plays tailback for the UA Razorbacks football team and has been suspended indefinitely from the football team by Head Coach Houston Nutt. A reserve running back, Smith plays behind Darren McFadden and Felix Jones. He has gained 91 yards in 16 carries this year for the 1-2 Razorbacks.
He was arrested Sunday by Fayetteville police, accused of using a stolen credit card given to him by Micah Kirschbaum. Smith has yet to be formally charged by the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office. His arraignment is set for Oct. 26. The football player was arrested following an interview with police on Sunday related to the Sept. 18 arrest of Kirschbaum, 18, of Greenland, on 12 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and four counts of second-degree forgery.
