Mallett allegedly seen at UA Published: Tuesday, January 15, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Sightings of Ryan Mallett, the former Michigan quarterback, were reported numerous times Monday on the University of Arkansas campus. However, the UA program of new coach Bobby Petrino will not comment on Mallett or any other student-athlete until and unless the athlete officially enrolls at the UA. Time remains to enroll for the UA spring semester, which didn’t officially begin until classes started Monday. Mallett, who announced he was leaving the Wolverines program earlier this month, has been believed to have been considering Arkansas, UCLA and Tennessee since longtime Michigan coach Lloyd Carr announced his retirement. Carr’s retirement became effective after Michigan beat Florida in the Capital One Bowl on New Year’s Day.
Mallett declared intentions to transfer after Michigan announced former West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez as the Wolverines’ new head coach. If Mallett enrolls at Arkansas or any other Division I school, he must redshirt in 2008 and then would begin 2009 as a sophomore with three years to complete three seasons of eligibility. At Michigan in 2007, Mallett completed 61 of 141 passes for 141 yards with 7 touchdowns against 5 interceptions.
