It's official: Former Michigan QB Mallett is now a Razorback Published: Thursday, January 17, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Texarkana, Texas quarterback Ryan Mallett is a officially an Arkansas Razorback. Kevin Trainor, UA associate athletics director for external affairs, said the UA has processed the appropriate transfer paperwork from the University of Michigan, where Mallett attended in 2007. Mallett moved into a UA dorm and enrolled in class on Monday and has been attending classes this week. The 6-9, 240-pound quarterback was interested in Arkansas and recruited by the Razorbacks as a high school All-American, but opted to go to Michigan when Mitch Mustain inked with Arkansas. At Michigan in 2007, Mallett completed 61 of 141 passes for 892 yards with 7 touchdowns against 5 interceptions.
Mallett opted to transfer when Michigan hired Rich Rodriguez away from West Virginia. Rodriguez favors a spread-option scheme that requires a gifted runner at quarterback. Mallett is a pure dropback passer with a strong arm and quick release. Mallett will be able to practice with the Razorbacks in the spring and fall but will not be able to compete for Arkansas until the 2009 season. More Stories From: TERRY J.
