Murphree leads Hogs' hit parade in win over Siena Published: Saturday, March 08, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Ten games played, 10 home runs hit. Quite an ongoing home-run run for Aaron Murphree, Arkansas' slugging senior DH / first baseman / outfielder who clouted three home runs Friday, pacing the 9-1 Razorbacks to a 14-5 success over Siena Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium. Murphree's third Friday home run high over center sailed an estimated 485 feet according to press box consensus. It opened the veteran eyes of Razorback coach Dave Van Horn, who has seen a lot of hot streaks in his time. " Unbelievable, " Van Horn said. " He's confident and it's fun to watch and I've never seen anything like it. He is confident and putting good swings on it and he's hitting it the right way. " For Murphree, the right way seems to be using the count for clout.
" I have been fortunate enough to lay off bad pitches and staying ahead in the counts, " Murphree said. " I have been fortunate to see more fastballs. " Even with 3 home runs and 4 RBIs in four atbats, Murphree didn't shine alone Friday. Razorbacks Andy Wilkins and Jacob House each homered. Second baseman Ben Tschepikow of Fayetteville and shortstop Tim Smalling each went 4 for 5. Tschepikow especially caught Van Horn's attention when he scored from first on Smalling's bloop into No-Man's Land in right center. " I thought Ben had a tremendous day at the plate, " Van Horn said. " I really liked the way he hustled on that ball that Tim hit into that Bermuda Triangle. I appreciate that hustle. " Now Siena, weather-challenged this time of year hailing from upstate New York, is only 1-7 but Siena starter Craig Chaput had a 2. 45 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 11 innings heading into Friday's game and apparently had pitched well against some Razorbacks in amateur summer ball. " The competition is fine, " Van Horn said. " Siena has played all over the country the last few years. That pitcher that pitched against us had pitched in the New England League and some of our guys knew him, and we got on him pretty good. " Unfortunately, Van Horn thought Siena got on Arkansas starter Mike Bolsinger pretty good, too. Van Horn lifted Bolsinger, a junior college transfer, in the fifth before he could get the win which went to Dallas Keuchel. Keuchel threw 2 1 / 3 scoreless innings starting with the final out in Siena's 2-run fifth. Bolsinger was charged with 4 runs, including Jacob Willis' solo home run, and 6 hits and walked 2 while striking out 3 in 4 1 / 3 innings. " He wasn't throwing very good, " Van Horn said. " Gets two strikes and leaves one up - base hit. Same thing again. If that's an SEC game, they might have had 5 or 6 runs. He got away with some singles that might have left the yard in a Friday night SEC game. He needs to improve. " The three-game series with Siena continues at 1 p.m. today and noon Sunday. Cliff Springston (2-0, 0. 73 ) starts for Arkansas today with Shaun Seibert (0-0, 12. 46 ) set to start Sunday. Arkansas then plays Tuesday and Wednesday games at Pac 10 power Arizona State before its opening SEC threegame series next weekend against Georgia here.
