Hill, Lewis named Arkansas nominees for McWhorter scholarship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Track and field athlete Tyler Hill and golfer Stacy Lewis have been nominated by the University of Arkansas for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship.

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.

The Southeastern Conference will name the 2008 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on April 6 in conjunction with National Student-Athlete Day.

Hill, a senior from Ethel, La., has earned a 3. 5 grade point average, majoring in Biology. He is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll (2008 Spring Honor Roll announced later in spring ) and has made the Lon Farrell Academic Honor Roll seven times at the University of Arkansas. He was also named to the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Track and Field Team for the 2007 cross country season.

Athletically, Hill is a fouryear letterman in cross country and track and field. He is a three-time All-SEC honoree and was also named All-South Central Region in cross country in 2007. He is a two-time NCAA qualifier in cross country and the indoor 5, 000 meters.

At the 2007 SEC Indoor Championships, Hill earned a runner-up finish in the 5, 000 meters. At the 2007 SEC Outdoor Championships, he earned points for the Hogs with a fifth-place finish in the 5, 000 meters and an eighth-place finish in the 10, 000 meters. Most recently, he earned runner-up honors in the 3, 000 meters and a fourth-place finish in the 5, 000 meters at the 2008 SEC Indoor Championships.

In the community, Hill has been a volunteer with Special Olympics as well as spending time speaking to area schools and local medical clinics. He is active in Arkansas Athletes Outreach and has helped with Razorbacks for Christmas, helping provide gifts for underprivileged kids.

Lewis, a senior from The Woodlands, Texas, has earned a 3. 74 grade point average, majoring in Finance and Accounting. She is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and has earned University of Arkansas Athletics Honor Roll for nine semesters. She is a three-time member of the National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team and a member of the Chancellor's List and Dean's List at Arkansas.

Lewis is the reigning NCAA Division I champion and is currently the top-ranked women's amateur golfer in the country according to Golfweek. She is a member of Team USA in the 2008 Curtis Cup and was named the 2006 and 2007 Golfweek and Golf Digest Women's Amateur Player of the Year. She is a three-time NGCA All-American and was named the 2005 SEC Freshman of the Year.

A winner of numerous collegiate and other amateur tournament titles, Lewis finished fifth in the 2007 LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship and won the 2007 LPGA Dinah Shore Award. She was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team and selected as a 2007 University of Arkansas Salute to Excellence honoree and the Lady Razorback of the Year.

Lewis is a member of the 2007 SEC Good Works Team, having done exemplary community service. She volunteered for Razorbacks for Christmas, helping provide gifts for underprivileged kids, Women and Girls in Sport Clinics, Sweat Hogs, a cooperative outreach program with Washington Regional Medical Center and Fayetteville Public Schools, and Champions of Character, participating in middle school assemblies, talking about self-discipline, courage and other attributes.
