Lady'Back senior shortstop Huckabee selected to SEC Community Service Team

Published: Sunday, May 04, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

University of Arkansas senior Dayna Huckabee was selected to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team the league announced Thursday.

" Dayna is a great role model and it's a well deserved honor, " said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. " She has always been good about giving her time and making herself available for community service. I've been blessed to coach an individual like Dayna. She's a great student-athlete, but an even better person. "

Huckabee, a right-handed shortstop from Texarkana, Ark., has a program-best 20 home runs and 12 triples. One of three seniors, Huckabee is a leader both on and off the field.

Huckabee's community service projects include volunteering for Sweat Hogs, Razorbacks for Christmas and Arkansas Athletes Outreach each for four years. With AAO, she helped with camps, clinics and coordinated activities for children. Huckabee also visited nursing homes at Halloween, served on a canned food drive for the Battered Women's Shelter and was a K'Life Small Group leader (a local children's ministry ). In addition, she played and taught softball to children of Champs League. The kinesiology major is also a threeyear member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC ).

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team highlights an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
