Pair of UA athletes named to SEC Good Works Team

Published: Wednesday, May 14, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

Arkansas Razorback senior Tyler Hill and Lady Razorback senior Dacia Barr, members of the UA track and field teams, were named to the SEC Good Works Team, it was announced by the conference on Monday.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.

In the community, Tyler Hill has been a volunteer with Special Olympics as well as spending time speaking to area schools and local medical clinics. He is active in Arkansas Athletes Outreach and has helped with Razorbacks for Christmas, helping provide gifts for underprivileged kids.

Athletically, the biology major from Ethel, La., is a four-year letterman in cross country and track and field. He recently earned his first All-America honor with an eighth-place finish in the 5, 000 meters at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships With Arkansas Athletes Outreach (AAO ), Barr has participated in day-trip outings with underprivileged children and teens, Razorbacks for Christmas, a gift distribution and party for local area children, and volunteered at summer camps for kids.

Working with the Arkansas Student Life office, she has participated in the Book Hogs reading program and the Sweat Hogs exercise and fitness program, which includes making visits to schools and local area children visiting campus.
