Arkansas junior running back Brandon Barnett was arrested on Tuesday and charged with contempt of cour t for failing to pay a prior speeding ticket, Fayetteville Police Lt. Mike Perryman said.

Barnett was pulled over in a routine traffic stop, and a check of his license showed he had a warrant for his arrest on an outstanding speeding ticket in Clarksville, Perryman said.

Barnett was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 6: 58 p. m. and was released on $ 285 bond at 8: 24 p. m.

Barnett, 22, of 3510 Oakhill Dr. in Texarkana, was listed as the second- string tailback for the Razorbacks heading into the fall behind junior Michael Smith.

Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino said through an athletic department spokesman that he was aware of Barnett’s arrest and was aware that it was for failure to pay a traffic citation.

Barnett is Arkansas’ second scholarship player arrested since Petrino took the reins on Dec. 11. Linebacker Freddie Fairchild faces two misdemeanor charges for a domestic incident in February and remains on indefinite suspension.
