UA’s Forsythe voted to All-SEC baseball first team

Arkansas junior Logan Forsythe was voted to the All-SEC Baseball First Team by the Southeastern Conference coaches, it was announced on Tuesday morning by the league office in Birmingham, Ala.

Forsythe ended the 2008 regular season on Monday night by going 2-2 at the plate with a pair of walks, 3 runs scored and a RBI to improve his overall batting average to. 352. In SEC play, the slick-fielding third baseman hit. 371 and led the team with 7 home runs. He was on a tear in the second half of the conference season with multiple weekends where he hit. 500 or better while also drawing a team high 28 walks.

He ranked among the SEC’s top 10 players in five offensive categories (batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, walks and sacrifice flies ). Forsythe tied with Vanderbilt third baseman Pedro Alvarez for first-team honors.

The award for Forsythe is his first all-conference selection as he becomes the 17 th Razorback to earn an honor since Arkansas joined the league in 1992. Including Forsythe, the 17 Razorbacks have earned a total of 23 all-conference selections and his selection is the 13 th first-team honoree in Arkansas history.

Arkansas must now wait to find out what its postseason plans will be with the release of the 64-team NCAA Tournament Field on Monday at 11: 30 a. m.
