Lady'Backs to compete at NCAA Championships

No. 17 Arkansas Lady Razorback track and field will compete in the 2008 NCAA Championships, Wednesday-Saturday at Drake Stadium.

Wednesday’s events will begin at 10 a. m., Thursday at 10: 45 a. m., Friday at 1 p. m. and Saturday at 11 a. m. The NCAA Championships will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports, Friday, June 13 th, 7-10 p. m. CST and on CBS, Saturday, June 14 th, 3-5 p. m. CST.

Arkansas sits at No. 17 in the current USTFCCCA ranking. The Lady’Backs are just one of five SEC schools ranked in the top 25 this week. The Cardinal and White will have 11 student-athletes competing in eight events at the NCAA Championships.

Dacia Barr (1. 500 M ), Tominque Boatright (4 x 400 M ), Etienne Chaplin (4 x 400 M ), Paige Farrell (4 x 400 M ) and Katie Stripling (pole vault ) will be making their second straight appearance at the NCAA Championships. The quartet competed at the event in 2007.

Barr (1, 500 meters ), Megan Jackson (3, 000 M steeplechase ) and Christine Kalmer (5, 000 meters ) earned automatic advancement to the NCAA Championships with their top five finishes at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships in Fayetteville last weekend. Denise Bargiachi clocked a solid provisional-qualifying time in the 10, 000 meters earlier this season.

The Lady’Backs received atlarge bids for Catherine White in the 5, 000 meters, Makeatha Cooper in the 100-meter hurdles, Stripling in the pole vault and the 4 x 400-meter relay.

Courtenay Brown, White and Shelise Williams will be making their NCAA Outdoor Championships debut this weekend.
