Fairchild dismissed from Hogs Published: Thursday, June 12, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Freddie Fairchild's turbulent run as an Arkansas Razorback appears to be over. The junior linebacker, who faces two misdemeanor charges stemming from a domestic incident in March, was dismissed Wednesday from the Arkansas football team by Coach Bobby Petrino. Fairchild, of Little Rock, had been serving an indefinite suspension since his arrest March 24, missing all of spring practice and sparking rumblings within the athletic department that he had played his last down as a Razorback. " Freddie Fairchild has been dismissed from our football team, " Petrino said through a university release. " Since his suspension last March, he has not participated in team activities. As his status with our team has been resolved, we will make no further comment regarding this matter. " Fairchild, who will turn 22 on July 1, could not be reached for comment. He faces a Wednesday hearing on charges of third-degree battery and second-degree false imprisonment.
In the Fayetteville Police Department arrest report, a woman described as Fairchild's domestic partner alleged that Fairchild attacked her and caused injuries to her head, face, arms, legs and pelvis. She also alleged Fairchild would not allow her to leave their dwelling for several hours after the incident. Fairchild's attorney, Bob White of Fayetteville, said he has not spoken to Fairchild since his dismissal from the program. " I feel certain he and his family have looked at alternatives as to where he might enroll in school and play in the fall, " White said. " Given the difficulties he's been through, it may be a blessing in disguise that it won't be a distraction for him and the program to have to deal with his circumstances as the summer goes on. " Fairchild, an 11-game starter in 2007, was the most experienced linebacker on the Razorbacks' roster. He led the team with 4 1 / 2 sacks last season and ranked third with 92 tackles. Fairchild had a starcrossed career as a Razorback. He had a superb freshman season with 59 tackles in 2005, earning a starting job for the final nine games that year. He had 11 tackles in the 2006 season opener against Southern California before sustaining a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee in Week 2. Fairchild's dismissal would hurt Arkansas' Academic Progress Rate score if he was academically ineligible at the time of his dismissal. White said Fairchild was enrolled in classes through the spring but he was unaware of Fairchild's current academic standing.
