Lawson promoted to assistant media relations director at UA

Published: Monday, July 21, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

Zach Lawson has been promoted to a full-time assistant media relations position at the University of Arkansas, Associate Athletic Director for Media Relations and Communications Kevin Trainor announced on Saturday.

Lawson was an intern in the Razorback media relations office for one year prior to the promotion.

" We are extremely fortunate to add Zach to our media relations staff on a full-time basis, " Trainor said. " Since arriving last summer, he has been an asset to our department in many ways. His tenures at Arkansas, Texas Tech and the NCAA have given him a wide range of experience in athletic media relations. I know he will continue to do an outstanding job for the Razorbacks. "

Lawson jumps into a full slate of activities serving as the primary media relations contact for soccer and softball while assisting with all 17 of the University's other sports programs.

As an intern at Arkansas, Lawson worked with the Razorback men's golf and men's tennis teams. He served as the media coordinator for the 2008 Southeastern Conference Men's Tennis Championship and was the assistant editor of the Razorback basketball game day programs.

Prior to joining the Razorbacks, Lawson worked as an intern at the National Collegiate Athletic Association from June 2006-June 2007. While at the NCAA, he worked with Branding and Communications coordinating NCAA messaging. In addition, Lawson wrote articles for The NCAA News and the Double-A Zone, the official blog of the NCAA.

Lawson's sports media career began in 2004 when he was a student assistant in the Texas Tech Athletic Media Relations office. Some of Lawson's duties at TTU included working the 2005 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament first and second rounds and the 2005 and 2006 Big 12 Women's Basketball Tournaments. He also drafted and edited press releases and season recaps for cross country, golf, track and field and volleyball.
