Keuchel, Pierce named summer league All-Stars

Published: Thursday, July 24, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

Razorback baseball players Dallas Keuchel and Chad Pierce were each named to their respective league All-Star games as the summer leagues move past the halfway point.

Keuchel was named a reserve for the West in the prestigious Cape Cod League where he is a starting pitcher for the Wareham Gatemen. Pierce was called on as a reserve for the North in the Valley League where he stars for the Fauquier Gators.

The Under Armour Cape Cod League All-Star Game is scheduled for Saturday at Veterans Field in Chatham, Mass. Keuchel earned his spot on the west roster by throwing 45 innings and accumulating a miniscule 1. 60 earned run average. His ERA ranks sixth in the league for a team that has a 14-19 record entering Wednesday.

Keuchel’s sterling season has him leading Wareham in ERA, complete games and innings pitched and also has him with 30 strikeouts against just nine walks. He is also among the league leaders in innings pitched.

Pierce’s all-star appearance came on July 6 at Casey Field in Covington, Va. Entering the game in the fourth inning as a pinch hitter, Pierce was hit by a pitch and would eventually come around to score one of the North’s five runs. Pierce would play through the sixth inning before being pinch hit for in the top of the seventh.

Arkansas’ players will continue to play for their respective summer league teams through the beginning of August before taking a short break prior to their return to Fayetteville.
