SEC MEDIA DAYS NOTEBOOK : Petrino: Hogs will have new-look uniforms in '08 Published: Saturday, July 26, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL HOOVER, Ala. - Bobby Petrino doesn't look or sound like the type to use popular slang terms to describe things, but that's what he did Friday when asked about Arkansas' updated uniform design. " They're going to look a little different, " Petrino said. " They're going to be sharp. " Petrino, who later used a slang term to describe the new jerseys, relayed a discussion he had with his son recently that concerned uniforms and how the design has an effect on high school recruits. While listening to the radio one day, Petrino's son started talking about former Cincinnati basketball coach Bob Huggins. Specifically, the discussion hinged on the perception that the Bearcats attracted more recruits because of updated, edgy uniforms. " I said, ' What do you mean ?'" Petrino recalled. " He said, ' Their uniforms are tight and that's why guys go to the school, because of their uniforms. '
" So we're going to try and have uniforms that are tight, " Petrino said with a smile. Petrino's usage of the slang word " tight" is a synonym for the adjectives " awesome " or " dope, " according to the Online Slang Dictionary. An image reportedly to be that of the updated uniform designed by Adidas popped up on Internet message boards earlier this week. While the image reveals a jersey very reminiscent of Arkansas' uniform style of the last three seasons, some additions were easily identifiable in the photo. The most notable difference was a thin, white line that adorned the chest and curved under the sleeves. Script reading " Arkansas" is still on the chest, but in a smaller size that is no wider than the alsosmaller jersey numbers. The white lettering and the jersey number also had a black outline, unlike last season's rendition. Kevin Trainor, associate athletic director for media relations and communications, could not confirm a change in the uniforms Friday and said he had not seen the photo. Ziemba adjusts at Auburn Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville wasn't afraid of putting true freshman Lee Ziemba in the Tigers' lineup last year. And he certainly won't hesitate keeping Ziemba in games this season after the results Ziemba gave the Tigers last season. " He'll start every game as long as he's at Auburn because of his tenacity, " Tuberville said of the former Rogers High star. Ziemba played at right tackle last season on the offensive line and was moved to left tackle during the offseason. " He's a guy you can count on every day of giving all he's got in practice, " Tuberville said. " He loves to practice and that's very unusual for an offensive lineman because those guys never touch the ball. " Tuberville also had lofty expectations for Ziemba and the improvement he may make with the position switch. " He's in a position of having a chance to be as good as what we've ever had at Auburn, " Tuberville declared. Brooks: Kentucky, SEC have deep talent pool Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks thinks the SEC is one of the deepest and most competitive conferences in college football, and, perhaps, even deeper in coaching talent than the NFL. " Nobody in the country can even come close to saying they have five coaches in their league that have won national championships, " Brooks said. Alabama's Nick Saban, LSU's Les Miles, South Carolina's Steve Spurrier, Florida's Urban Meyer and Tennessee's Phillip Fulmer have won national championships while coaching in the SEC. Brooks also said the talent level and depth in the SEC is unmatched. " You know, other than the NFL, there's no better football league in the world, in the country, " Brooks said. "... It's just an unbelievable league. It's a meat grinder every week. " Brooks, who coached in the NFL in four stints for 10 years as an assistant, said his team is also closing the gap on perennial SEC East powers Tennessee, Florida and Georgia. " We have more speed. We have more talent, " Brooks said. " We have players that are capable of playing at Florida, Georgia and Tennessee. " Kentucky won eight games for the second time in as many years last season and also beat then-No. 1 LSU in an overtime game. The Wildcats' aerial attack led the conference last year in passing yards per game at 287. 9 yards and third in total offense. " We were one of the teams that everybody used to think they could put an automatic'W' up next to as they went into the season, " Brooks said. " It's not that way anymore.
