Lady'Back softball set to begin fall schedule

Published: Sunday, September 21, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

For the past couple of weeks, the Razorback softball team has been at work preparing for the upcoming 2009 season. The team will put that work to use today as it hosts the Arkansas Fall Festival at its new home, Bogle Park. This will mark the first event held in the newly construction facility.

The Razorbacks will play hosts to the teams from Northeastern Oklahoma A & M and Seminole State. Each team involved will play two games with the first game, pitting Arkansas against NEO A & M, starting at 1 p. m. The day’s middle game will feature NEO A & M and Seminole which is scheduled for a 3: 30 p. m. start. The Razorbacks will return in today’s finale to take on Seminole at 6 p. m.

Entering his fifth year at the helm of the Arkansas program, Jamie Pinkerton will field a team fresh off a 37-29 season which saw the Razorbacks advance to NCAA Regional play. The team returns last season’s top hitter Kayla Johnson who logged a team-best. 338 batting average and scored 53 runs, also a team high. Arkansas’ top-three hitters from last season are back, including junior Miranda Dixon. Dixon was second on the team with a. 317 average at the plate and led the team in doubles (15 ), runs batted in (47 ) and total bases (114 ). She was just as effective on the mound as Arkansas’ No. 2 starter where she was 12-13 with a team-best 2. 30 ERA. Last season, as a sophomore, Dixon was named to the All-South Region second team by the Louisville Slugger / National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Arkansas Fall Festival is the first of four fall events for the Razorbacks this season. Arkansas will play host to events over the next month, all set to be played at Bogle Park.
