You got it Mitch.. There is 10 other guys on the field, 85 more on the sideline, and ALL OF HOG NATION supporting you.... You will not win every down... If you get beat, get up, wipe the dust off, and try again..
It jumps right off the film at you. I don't care who you are. He dances around to much before he finds a hole.
I think with Wingo... Either the switch will flip Saturday, or he will strictly be a situational back..(wheel routes and the short passing game, 4-8 carries) If he doesn't figure it out by Saturday it might be too late. I say feed him 20 times and see what happens.. He's been here three years now. The coaches know what he can or can't do.
Look for D.Curtis, KW40, or maybe even Dennis to start against Troy, if Wingo hasn't made significant improvements..
I personally am rooting for Wingo, as are the coaches. They recruited him very hard out of St. Louis, and would love to reap some rewards from all that hard work.. I also think if he could get 7-10 carries early, like in the first quarter alone, and just break that long one.. Man, he just needs some way to build confidence. Needs to blow someone up..
This is really a testament to the recruiting capabilities of our coaching staff... Travis Swanson and Alvin Bailey were awesome last year as freshman, and HOGS everywhere expect big things from the "big 3" (Smothers, Cook, and Danenhauer) Add in guys like Peacock, Oden, and Thomas, and you can clearly see that we are building an awesome OL that will be critical in determining what kind of season we have not just this year, but for years to come..
I hate the fact that some of our players "feelings" get hurt in the process, but this is not a bad thing... Oxner will be missed and his contributions are appreciated, but let's keep it real.. We want to win national championships. Period.. We need to have our best 11 guys on the field at all times... Freshman, senior, junior, sophomore.. Doesn't matter.
I think Rotnei would benefit from this move as much as anybody... But if he wants to leave, that's OK.. He should know that the grass is not always greener on the other side..
I guess you can't blame him for being upset. He probably was as close to Pel as anyone. Unfortunately, he had to learn the hard way that NCAA bball is big-time business, with big-time money. No one cares about your "feelings" they care about the bottom line and nothing else..
That being said, the departures of Britt, Farmer, and Delvon will leave us with 9 scholarship players (counting Rot). We (hopefully) have 5 coming in. That makes 14. We only have 13 scholarships.. This means one of our current players will have to find a new home anyway..
Fact: Bud Walton Arena will be going apesh*t every game next season... Like the Texas & Oklahoma games in '08-'09, or anytime during the mid to late 90's.. 18-20,000 HOG fans screaming... I Can't freakin' wait... Rollin with Mike... 40 minutes of kick your A$$..
John Pelphrey is a good team manager.. He knows how make his guys work hard on and off the court.. He is also a relentless recruiter... He is the main reason our APR is out of the gutter...
The big questions with Pel were his ON the court management skills, his erratic substitutions, offensive & defensive strategies, and complete inconsistency from game to game...
Tide veteran Courtney Upshaw vs. Hogs rookie Mitch Smothers: key matchup or potential mismatch?
