The tone of your post makes me believe that you feel like this recruiting class is no big deal, and that the 3 commits who are Arkansas residents will be in Fayetteville this winter. Personally, I'm doubtful about Madden. AD Long did a wonderful job of finding basketball coaches in his time as AD at Eastern KY (Travis Ford) and at Pitt (Jamie Dixon). Let's hope he still has some of that lightning in a bottle. If this is his one screw up it may create an abrupt end in his time at Arkansas. It was wrong to fire Pel without a slam dunk hire in your back pocket. I'll let the "big dance" end and if no announcement is made by then, consider the move a wrong one.

Former UA coach respectfully disagrees with dismissal
AD Long had better come up with someone big time. (Doc Sadler?- really? Tubby Smith?-please. Buzz Williams?-I thought he was looking to improve the student athlete situation? Billy Gillispie?-H@3% no! Next basketball season is on AD Long and the fans (boosters) of NW Arkansas who called for Pelphrey's firing. Walton better be at 15,000+ every night or else those that boycotted games are so full of excrement they haven't had a bowel movement in years.

Report puts Tubby in UA coaching mix
2 reasons I will consider the hiring of Tubby Smith at Arkansas an epic fail. 1) Style of play. Tubby's teams play a slow, methodical offense. Look how undervalued Rajon Rondo was in his offense at Kentucky.
2) Failure to successfully recruit. Sanchez and Clark both said no to Tubby Smith while he was at KENTUCKY. At KENTUCKY, Tubby Smith only once had a top 5 recruiting class. Most on here generally believe that part of Coach Richardson's downfall at the end was his lack of effort in recruiting. If Tubby Smith could not recruit to KENTUCKY just after its championship runs ('96 champ, '97 runner up, '98 champ- Tubby won with Pitino's players). Can we expect him to hang on to this top 10 recruiting class? Doubtful at best.

HogAuthority - you are comparing the recruiting class of Texas Tech (0 players in the top 150 - one player in the top 40 of his position rank) vs. Arkansas (4 players in the top 150 - 5 players in the top 30 of his position rank)? You STILL haven't named me one instance of firing a coach with an OUTSTANDING recruiting class working out for the best?
Also, name me a coach that's a slam dunk hire? One coach that will excite the fan base... that Arkansas realistically has a chance to get? Is the money coming from your deep pockets HogAuthority? sdac, you got deep pockets?

So jedog you'd rather fire a coach who has an outstanding recruiting class coming in? Where in the history of college basketball has that proven to be a good idea? Name one instance. If we don't learn from history we are susceptible to repeating the mistakes of prior generations. If we do hire a new coach, not named Bill Self, John Calipari, Thad Motta, or Rick Barnes then we are starting over at John Pelphrey's 1st year with 2 members of this recruiting class actually wearing Razorback uniforms. If Pel gets fired... I predict that Young, Madden, and Abron get released from their Letters of Intent and are playing elsewhere.

LIKE IT IS: Victory a small step in process for Hogs
Please look at archived Wally Hall articles from the basketball seasons of 1986-1988. You will notice the same critical tone of Nolan Richardson. If the University had fired him during this timewe would have missed '90, '94, and '95
Richardson's NCAA tourney record in the first 4 seasons (1986- no bid; 1987-NIT; 1988-1st rd1; 1989-2nd rd) all out of a diluted Southwest Conference.
Pelphrey's first 4 (2008-2nd rd; 2009-no bid; 2010-no bid; 2011-NIT?) in '08 the SEC was strong. In '09-'11 the SEC is comparable to the SWC of the late 80's.
I find myself frustrated with the home losses to Georgia and Ole Miss and attendance is a huge concern. I'm just not sure that there is a coach out there that can energize this fan base who would accept what the university has to pay. I'm willing to give this until the end of 2012 for fear of missing out like we coud have missed out on '90, '94, and '95.

Long still on side of Pelphrey
To address some previous posts. I think that J Frank Broyles mistake was not hiring Bill Self after Coach Richardson was fired. Bill Self (at Illinois at the time) would have made the leap to an Arkansas basketball program that was doing well at the time.
That being said. I'm all for giving Coach Pelphrey 4 years of my support and then evaluating. I feel he's capable of turning it around. I also don't see a coach out there who would be a "home run hire."
I live in Kentucky and was in attendance in Rupp Arena this year and 2008, and went to Tennessee this year and 2008. These games I would rather forget. I'll continue to cheer and I'll continue to watch and go to as many games as possible. WPS
