Road work winding down for Arkansas coaches

Please keep the information regarding the status of recruiting at Arkansas vs. other SEC schools at the top of the list in terms of the subject of articles provided. This is top of mind right now among Razorback football fans. We are definitely concerned that our recruiting will be adversely affected by the BP scandal. Thanks!

Three football Hogs arrested, charged with burglary

This may have happened even if the Petrino debacle had not occurred and he was still the HC. But, it sure didn't help a bit in terms of an example. When the leader neglects to respect the details, so do the charges - in a bigger way. BP's example of not considering consequences, but acting on impulse was repeated by these guys.

What were the majors of these guys - hopefully not criminal justice? They are about to get a lesson in criminal justice. Stupid is as stupid does.

Arkansas hires Smith as head coach

It was the right decision to go with an interim at a very difficult time to try to bring a HC into the program.

Long simply recognizes that any high-caliber HC hire is going to want his say over who will be his assistants.

There was no way Long could upset the entire team dynamics with a complete staff turnover to accommodate such a HC hire - even if there was one this time of year.

Long sent a message to the entire potential HC community with this hire - and at the same time kept the current staff of great assistants along with the possibility of this team doing something special in 2012.

I hope the new HC is able to keep some of these great assistants.

Long didn’t err in hiring, or firing, of Petrino

Well said David Hall. Very similar to a couple of my previous posts. That said - I do continue to pray that the three families directly affected by this horrible saga find forgiveness and reconciliation in our Lord. And I am fairly confident that Long and others will find the right path thru this - one that focuses on the longer term - not just this Fall.

Hogs stay solid as ground trembles around them

I am not concerned about the skill, talent and desire of the 2012 team this Fall. This team is the product of the past four years of investment. This team will do well - even with an interim head coach - contrary to the norm with an interim HC. If we go into the Fall with an interim HC, it will still have a negative effect when we play the likes of Alabama and LSU with legend HC's in place. Nevertheless, the team will perform well and may just pull off an upset of one or both of them.

The bigger concern is 2013 and beyond.

Players’ objective still same

I agree with the sentiments expressed above. However, if this team holds it together this Fall, it will be because they will leverage the knowledge capital built under Petrino (in spite of his judgment issues off of the field). After this Fall, that knowledge capital begins to dissipate. We will need an equal to replace him. All the great fan support in the world will not matter on the field once that capital starts dissipating - unless there is a solid replacement.

Wilson on top of game

I am glad to finally see some articles that are focused upon the players and how the team is progressing in Spring practice - also the comittment of the assistant coaches. The interim coach option for the remainder of the year is not ideal, but in the long term, it may allow us to get the right head coach and preserve the integrity of those who might be the best candidates (e.g. McGee) as they remain at their current schools for this year and show some loyalty to the kids who committed to them. I become more impressed with the character of Davis and Wilson as I read their comments and observe their responses to adversity. Finally, I am continuing to pray that Bobby Petrino and the three families directly affected by this horrible path of bad decisions find forgiveness, healing, reconciliation and redemption through the One (and only One) Who can provide these things. Whether anyone directly involved in this sad situation realizes it now or not, it has defined the rest of their lives.

Petrino fired at Arkansas

Pasted from a post I made on a related article----

Dear Coach Petrino:

Thank you for your efforts (and success) to restore the football program to a status of national recognition and championship caliber. You will be missed and it grieves me to know the inner torment you are experiencing over a series of bad decisions - not to mention the damage to the lives of the members of three families in particular directly affected by these decisions - the Petrino family, the Dorrell (?) family and the family of her fiance. I pray that you (and those families affected) find the forgiveness, reconciliation and healing that is only to be found in our Lord and Savior and the redeemer of the souls of men. Through that, I pray that you are eventually able to forgive yourself.

Jeff Long made the correct decision - the only real option available to him to make in my opinion and the opinion of most observers of this sad saga. I hope we are able to obtain a coach of comparable caliber to continue the success begun under your past leadership.

I wish you and the families most directly affected a path of true recovery.

Hogs AD dealing with one big headache

The issue here is principle and I, for one, don't see a path consistent with principle (and most importantly example to all of the impressionable young people) than to fire BP for breach of his contract terms. I continue to be an admirer of CBP and his coaching abilities and am certain that he will land somewhere else. However, the integrity of the program, the future of recruiting, the respect of the players and the trust of all that surround this program is at stake. Any other decision seems to be one of expediency vs. the longer term issues at stake. Similar to one of the previous posts, the first candidate that came to mind for me was McGee.
