So, Hog Authority, if the Hogs win the SEC, you would expect Long to double Anderson's salary to make him the highest paid coach in the SEC....because that's how it works....right. All fans need to shelve expectations for now, we can hope and enjoy this ride. Today, I saw everything I needed to confirm everything I suspected when Kentucky became a final four team. We have the talent plus the recruits to have some fun next year...Now we might just have the coaching to match.
I'm glad Dana Altman didn't take the job 4 years ago because it lead us to today. Can't wait until next season...oh wait we have an exciting football season in between. This could be a new golden era for Razorback sports.
I guess a team going to the elite 8 with 2nd round talent doesn't count for anything.. or for that matter taking a team to the NCAA's that had less talent than the hogs this year doesn't count either. To not find merit in this hire is just not being intelectually honest. BTW, do a little research and you will understand the hire as a very good one. If you can't get behind MA please get off the Hog Bandwagon, it is filling up and will be very crowded soon.
This hire should reunite Hog Nation, it is currently being reported that Todd Day has expressed interest to being on staff. That would be awesome. Todd Day = Memphis. If we can sink some hooks in Memphis again, that would help immensely. Might just open the door to our past in a positive way that has been closed for the past 8 years.
Only reason to transfer would be he doesn't want to play in front of a packed house every night. MA is going to have huge expectations and I will try my best to temper mine but I do believe that this is going to be fun.
Any hog fan that doesn't wrap their arms around this hire...well... just not much of a fan. Long had his target and nailed it. This should wrap up all of the recruits coming in and have more lined up for years to come. Nice athletic team returning, top 5 recruiting class, I could see Nolan even making a recruiting visit or two for Mike if he wanted. Go hogs!!
UA87--- I never made anything personal with you when questioning your buyout number but for you to make it personal by saying I must be on meth, well I can't just let that lie. I've asked you to provide a source of any sort to contradict the widely reported number. You haven't. I do respectfully ask you to stop conjuring numbers until anything is reported to contradict those which have been. Giving you the benefit of the doubt, I would guess you missread the number $550000 for $5500000 and it stuck in your head.
For the rest of the subject matter, I believe very much, Mike Anderson is happy at Missouri and would not move for a lateral deal but there is a number that would bring him in. If anything his being "happy" may be an indication that he has interest. I remember every off-season when nutt would be linked to other deals and his contract number would just go up If anderson came out and said yeh Long and I have talked and I'm interested I would be floored
No matter who the next coach is, he will be set up for success.
He may not be here but, man I am enjoying watching Missouri play basketball. Pressure on D, movement on offense (actually looks like they are trying to score in the half court). Kind of hoping they lose so that we will now either way on Anderson.
Just searched Columbian Tribune. No mention of a buyout clause on their site regarding a team coming in and stealing Mike Anderson. They did report that there was a 500K buyout if he was fired. I was looking for another contract besides the one that he signed in 2009. Thought he might have reupped again last summer. The contract of 2009 is universally reported to have a buyout clause of 550K. That is what I believe the number to be. If it was that different I think it would have been corrected. I get that many times in reporting these days one article sets the numbers for all future to be written but I can find numerous samples that indicate a 550K and none that say 5.5 or 6 mil. Petrino has what has been termed an "insane buyout structure" which goes from 18 down to 3.4 mil over the course of his contract that is equal whether terminated or going to another team. It would really surprise me that Anderson signed a contract that didn't have a comparable buyout/termination buyout deal. Maybe I'm from Missouri but I need to be shown a 6 mil buyout number.
Where is the 6mil buyout coming from. Not to be argumentative..just every source, ESPN, Scouts, Columbian Missourian, etc. The only place I have seen anything more is on message boards where I have heard everything from 5 to 7.2 mil. I looked pretty hard for an accredited source to contradict the 550K number. Just curious. 6mil is too big of a risk IMO and I doubt we would seriously consider him if that was the case btu it would surprise me that he would allow that contract without a 3-4 million salary and an equal 6 mil termination buyout on his end.
Officials: UA paid going rate
