Defensive end Demetrius Jackson is an intriguing prospect who will likely become an Arkansas commitment at some point.

Jackson, 6-4, 225,. 4.6 seconds in the 40 yard dash, of Miami Washington High School hasn't played a down of high school football but his performance in spring practice got him noticed by several schools, including Arkansas.

Washington Coach Tim Harris said Jackson has focused on basketball but gave football a try in the spring.

"He played football growing up in little league all the way up to the eighth grade," Harris said. "Then he got up to high school and he didn't play and then he showed up in the spring and he still had the great upside for what it takes to be able to be a big-time defensive end."

Jackson, who has scholarship offers from Arkansas, Louisville and Florida International, said he plans to make an official visit to Fayetteville in September.

"He has the speed and the nice equipment," Harris said. "We're just trying to make sure to develop more of power part of the game. I think once he combines the power with the speed and the intelligence of the game then he'll grow into a really special type of football player."

Harris said Jackson is putting in the work this summer to improve his conditioning.

"He's really doing a good job this summer working on his conditioning to show he can play every play at maximum effort, full speed," Harris said.

Linebackers coach Randy Shannon was the lead recruiter of Washington offensive lineman Denver Kirkland, who inked with the Hogs in February. Now he's back recruiting Jackson, who's cousins with Kirkland.

"Coach Shannon did a tremendous job coming and watching him during the spring and evaluated him," Harris said. "He took back the spring game (tape) and really evaluated it."
