Hog commits welcome Perry's decision to be a Razorback

NWA Democrat-Gazette/J.T. Wampler SPANISH LESSON: Arkansas men's basketball coach Mike Anderson runs practice July 25 in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks begin a four-game exhibition tour of Spain tonight.

Arkansas' basketball recruiting momentum continued Wednesday when highly regarded junior forward Reggie Perry announced his decision to be a Razorback.

Perry, 6-10, 225 pounds, of Thomasville, Ga., picked the Hogs over scholarship offers from Florida State, Auburn, Arizona State, Mississippi State, Alabama, Iowa State, Miami and others.

Hoopseen.com rates Perry the No. 2 prospect in Georgia and No. 13 overall prospect in the nation for the 2018 class. He is rated a four-star prospect by ESPN.

Little Rock Parkview senior guard Khalil Garland, an Arkansas commitment for the 2017 class, doesn't know Perry but is aware of his talent.

"I know he's a big player that is athletic and can shoot the ball," Garland said. "He's a great pickup for the 2018 class."

Perry is the third player from the 16-under Arkansas Hawks AAU team to pledge to the Hogs. The Razorbacks also have commitments from Hawks 2018 shooting guard Isaiah Joe, 6-2, 160, of Forth Smith Northside, and 2019 point guard Justice Hill, 5-11, 160, of Little Rock Christian.

"I am really excited that Reggie committed to Arkansas," Joe said. "I love playing with Reggie because he can do so much on the court. I am pretty sure he led our team in double-doubles. We have really good chemistry as teammates. I am excited to have the opportunity to continue to play with Reggie as a Razorback. We have been playing together since the sixth grade. It is something that we all talked about this summer [playing together in college].

"We love the style Arkansas plays with; it is the same style we play on the Hawks. Woo Pig Sooie. Razorbacks for life."

Arkansas 2017 commitment and Little Rock Mills forward Darious Hall has seen Perry in action.

"He's nice with the rock, he can play both in and out, and we're glad to have him because we're about to turn this around," Hall said.
