Hogs win doubleheader finale, but Rebels take series

Arkansas pitcher Cannon Chadwick looks toward the plate during a game against Ole Miss on Friday, April 28, 2017, in Fayetteville.

Game 2

Arkansas 7, Ole Miss 4 - FINAL

Ole Miss put two runners on with no outs after a Jake Reindl walk and a Cannon Chadwick hit batter, but Evan Lee came out of the bullpen to retire the Rebels' 2-3-4 batters and earn his first save.

Arkansas salvaged the series and avoided being swept for the first time this season. Given how the first two games of the series went, the Razorbacks have to feel good about the way they closed the weekend.

Arkansas 7, Ole Miss 4 - End 8th Inning

Eric Cole's two-run single with two outs gave the Razorbacks some breathing room as they head to the ninth. Cole was thrown out at second base to end the inning.

Jake Reindl, who has allowed 1 run on 6 hits in 6 1/3 innings today, will take the mound again for the ninth.

Arkansas 5, Ole Miss 4 - Bottom 8th Inning

The Razorbacks have regained the lead with a nice approach at the plate in the eighth. Carson Shaddy singled and scored on Jax Biggers' two-out single. Dominic Fletcher also reached on a one-out error. The Hogs have runners at second and third with Eric Cole at the plate.

Arkansas 4, Ole Miss 4 - Middle 7th Inning

Colby Bortles has been really good for Ole Miss this weekend. His RBI single in the seventh tied the game and was his sixth RBI in this series.

Arkansas 4, Ole Miss 3 - Bottom 5th Inning

The Razorbacks have their first lead of the series. Luke Bonfield drew a two-out walk and Grant Koch followed with an RBI double. It looked like Ryan Olenek had the ball for the final out, but his momentum took him into the wall and the ball came out of his glove.

Koch has 3 RBI in this game. He also drove in the only run of the doubleheader's first game. He had been struggling quite a bit at the plate coming into the weekend and was moved into the seven-hole for the first game. He is hitting clean-up in this one.

Arkansas 3, Ole Miss 3 - Bottom 5th Inning

Arkansas has a fifth inning home run in every game this series. Chad Spanberger's solo shot over the right field fence has tied the game with two outs. That was his 10th home run this season.

The Razorbacks have hit four home runs this series, which have accounted for all five of the team's runs.

Ole Miss 3, Arkansas 2 - Bottom 3rd Inning

Coming into today, Grant Koch hadn't hit a home run since April 8. He's hit two today that have accounted for all the Razorbacks' runs. Koch's two-run homer into the left field bullpen has pulled Arkansas within a run with two outs. Chad Spanberger had reached on a one-out walk.

All four of Arkansas' runs in this series have come via the home run. Jared Gates hit a solo homer last night in the fifth inning and Koch in the fifth inning of the first game today. Koch leads the Razorbacks with 11 home runs this season.

Ole Miss 3, Arkansas 0 - Middle 2nd Inning

Reindl's first pitch was a wild pitch, which brought home another run from third base.

Ole Miss 2, Arkansas 0 - Top 2nd Inning

Thomas Dillard's solo home run is the Rebels' second of this game and sixth of the weekend. Ole Miss has chased Kacey Murphy here in the second. Jake Reindl inherits runners on second and third with two outs.

Ole Miss 1, Arkansas 0 - End 1st Inning

Eric Cole walked and Chad Spanberger singled to leadoff the first and both advanced on a wild pitch, but they were stranded when Carson Shaddy struck out to end the inning.

Ole Miss is throwing David Parkinson in this game. Parkinson is 5-2 with a 3.09 ERA.

Ole Miss 1, Arkansas 0 - Middle 1st Inning

Ole Miss is continuing to swing it well in Game 3. Tate Blackman's solo home run on a 2-2 pitch gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Blackman's homer came off Kacey Murphy, who thought he had recorded strike three in the pitch before.

Game 1

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 1 - FINAL

Jared Gates reached with a one-out single but Eric Cole and Grant Koch flied out to end the game.

The teams will play again at 3:40 p.m. in a game the Razorbacks desperately need to win. Arkansas has not been swept this season.

It appears left-hander Kacey Murphy will make his first SEC start. The sophomore has been real good for the Razorbacks in midweek games.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 1 - Middle 9th Inning

Cannon Chadwick worked around a pair of base runners in the top of the ninth and Arkansas is coming to the plate with its last chance to tie the game and series. Carson Shaddy, Jared Gates and Eric Cole are due up.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 1 - Middle 7th Inning

Trevor Stephan overcame a bad first inning to make it into the seventh. He was replaced after allowing a leadoff single in the inning, but Kevin Kopps came out of the bullpen to retire three straight.

Ole Miss has a new pitcher, right-hander Will Etheridge, who pitched the final inning last night. Rolison allowed 1 run on 4 hits and a walk, and struck out 3.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 1 - End 6th Inning

Arkansas had something cooking in the bottom of the sixth, but a mound trip from Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco settled down pitcher Ryan Rolison, who struck out Carson Shaddy and Jared Gates with runners on first and second.

Jake Arledge had reached on a walk and Luke Bonfield had a one-out single. Chad Spanberger put a charge into a pitch but it was caught at the warning track for the second time today.

Rolison has thrown 95 pitches, so the Razorbacks might be able to get into the Rebels' bullpen soon.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 1 - Top 6th Inning

Chad Spanberger made a great play to end the top of the sixth. Spanberger slid to catch a ball in the Bermuda Triangle, then made a heads-up play to throw out Kyle Watson at second base. Watson had ran toward third thinking the hit by Cooper Johnson would drop.

The Razorbacks have the top of the lineup at the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 1 - Bottom 5th Inning

Arkansas is on the board and just like last night it's by way of a fifth-inning home run. Grant Koch's solo shot just over the left field wall has provided a little life in the stadium. It was Koch's 10th home run this season, but first since a game against LSU on April 8.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 0 - End 3rd Inning

Ole Miss left-hander Ryan Rolison has picked up where James McArthur left off last night. He is getting a lot of fly ball and ground ball outs, and has allowed only two hits so far. Rolison doesn't have any strikeouts.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 0 - End 2nd Inning

The Razorbacks have had a base hit each inning, but still are scoreless through two innings. Jared Gates and Grant Koch both put good contact on line drives to the outfield, but right at the defenders.

Ole Miss 4, Arkansas 0 - Top 1st Inning

It's another bad start for Trevor Stephan as he has allowed six base runners in the first inning. Tate Blackman, Will Golsan and Colby Bortles all reached in the game's first three at-bats and all scored. Bortles, Nick Fortes and Cooper Johnson have RBI hits in the inning.

Stephan is in threat of another real short start. He only went 1 1/3 innings at Alabama four weeks ago and 1 1/3 at Auburn last week.
