Hill’s day to become a Razorback finally here

Little Rock Christian guard Justice Hill passes the ball during a game against Bentonville on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, in Bentonville.

Closing in on nearly three years since his oral commitment, Little Rock Christian point guard Justice Hill will sign a national letter of intent to play basketball with the University of Arkansas this morning.

Today marks the first day of the early signing period that lasts until Nov. 21.

Hill, 5-10, 175 pounds, orally committed to Coach Mike Anderson and the Hogs on Feb. 14, 2016, and has stayed strong to his word. He'll ink with the Razorbacks at 9:45 a.m. during a ceremony at the school.

"I give God glory for blessing me with the ability to perform at a high level on the court," Hill said. "I'm thankful that Arkansas saw enough in me to give me a chance to turn a dream into a reality and play for my home state."

A multisport athlete, Hill has passed for 2,102 yards and 24 touchdowns while completing 72 percent of his passes. He's rushed for 755 yards and 16 touchdowns for the 10-1 Warriors as they prepare to meet Texarkana in the Class 5A quarterfinals Friday.

Hill plans to enroll at Arkansas in January and redshirt the next semester while practicing with the Hogs.

He played for the 17-under Joe Johnson Arkansas Hawks the past three years on the Adidas circuit. Hill will be reunited in Fayetteville with former Hawks teammates Isaiah Joe, Ethan Henderson and Desi Sills.

The long wait to sign with Arkansas will make today more special.

"It'll be a very special day," Hill said. "The Razorback fans are the best fans, and I'm thankful that I get to promise them I'll be playing in front of them in the near future. It's been a long three years of hard work, however work only increases from here."

Hill is expected to be Arkansas' lone signee during the early signing period, but it's possible the Hogs could ink others during the spring signing period in April.

Arkansas women's basketball Coach Mike Neighbors is expected to sign four prospects today.

Springdale guard Marquesha Davis, center Destinee Oberg of Burnsville (Minn.) Academy of Holy Angels, wing Ginger Reece of Lawton (Okla.) Eisenhower, and point guard Makayla Daniels of Frederick High School in Maryland plan to sign with the Razorbacks.

Davis, 6-0, had scholarship offers from Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Houston, Georgia Tech and several others.

She was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Preps second team after averaging 21 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3 steals per game while shooting 45 percent from the field as a junior.

Oberg, 6-2, chose the Razorbacks over scholarship offers from Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue, Maryland, Washington and others in December.

Daniels, 5-7, has pledged to Neighbors over offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Marshall, Richmond, St. Joe's and Delaware.

ProspectsNation.com rates Oberg as a 4½-star prospect, the No. 12 post player and No. 64 overall. Reece is a four-star recruit, while Daniels is a 3½-star prospect.

The Arkansas women's basketball class is rated No. 9 in the nation, but that's not counting Davis in the rankings.
