Chad Morris, coordinators preview Missouri

Chad Morris, Arkansas head coach, talks to officials in the second quarter vs Mississippi State Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Miss.

Chad Morris

– Jordon Curtis was struck by a car after practice last night. He was taken to the hospital, treated and released. He will not be with us this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

– Saturday was unacceptable, and it still is today. It's about the small details. I'm not going to compromise. I said after the game it's unfortunate because the love for this program needs to be reciprocated with great effort. We have people pouring their hearts and souls into this program, but we need more.

– I suspended Ryan Pulley and Kam Curl, and they will not be with the team this week. Morris said they are not in the building. Britto Tutt did some good things when he got in there, and Jarques McClellion has to step up.

– Morris was very complimentary of Missouri quarterback Drew Lock. It's a trophy game and we've got a big test ahead of us.

– Curtis' accident happened outside the Fred Smith Center heading toward the parking lot.

– I wasn't happy with anybody. We've all got to get better, he said.

– I haven't looked that far into the future as far as the forecast is concerned. Honestly, I don't care about that and it shouldn't have an impact on the way we play.

– We went through our normal team meeting and said what needed to be said. It's about how we're going to respond, so we'll see.

– Briston Guidry is out. He had another surgery recently and his recovery will take several months.

– This game is extremely important. It's important to see how we're going to respond. We're going to have momentum going into the offseason regardless. We'll worry about next week next week.

– There is frustration, no doubt. I'm a firm believer that you create your own breaks. So what is our response going to be? We have to continue to push forward and respond the right way.

– Cole Kelley should be back today, and Devwah Whaley played Saturday and practiced last week but we didn't know how many snaps he would get.

– Missouri does a great job with personnel, but it all starts with Drew Lock, who opens up that run game.

– We were in here yesterday in the film room and coaches gameplanned. We'll be on the field today and tomorrow, so today is essentially a Tuesday.

John Chavis

– Recap of the last game: I'm disappointed. I thought we did some good things on the first drive and held them to a field goal. We couldn't get off the field on third down. Our kids played hard and physical but we didn't tackle or cover as well as we needed to, obviously.

– Drew Lock is one of the top quarterbacks in the country, and the offensive line has played together for years. It'll be a challenge, but hopefully it's one we'll be more prepared for.

– We have two freshmen that will be playing safety for us. We'll have four corners and four safeties going into the game fresh. It's next man up.

– I wanted to be around our kids, he said of coming down to the field in the second half. You know more about your kids when you do that. I'm not going to say I learned a lot. I learned a couple of things I'm not going to talk about. Not sure what I'm going to do this week in terms of doing it again. I'll see if it's raining, he joked.

– If Damarea Crockett doesn't play it won't bother me, he said with a laugh. They've had their ups and downs this year. We're not talking about an undefeated team.

– We're all disappointed. If you accept losing then you're in the wrong place and the wrong sport. Anytime you don't get your best on the field ... it wasn't our best and we didn't play well enough to win. I didn't sleep any Saturday night. It bothers you when you don't get your best. If you can go home and go to sleep then something is wrong. You don't feel good.

– Armon Watts has really bought in and he wants to do it the way you teach it. He's worked his rear end off, and all the credit goes to him and John Scott Jr. He is a smart young man and knows the game. He understands the importance of the process.

– On Pulley and Curl: I'm very disappointed. That's enough said. It's about perception. Here we are fighting to develop the culture of a winning attitude ... the perception was not very good. Coach Morris handled it and I'm behind him 100 percent.

– Not much on the game last week. The game would have been a lot different, I think, if the pass interference isn't called. It goes from 17-10 to 31-6 in the snap of a finger. I thought our guys executed well out of the half, but overall we didn't play good enough to win.

– We're all angry and disappointed. That game could have been a lot different if about six plays offensively have a different outcome. You never know which one play will win or lose you a game, but those six hurt us. Chad has told us the state, university and program deserves more than what we're giving right now.

– In practice, the double-reverse pass from De'Vion Warren worked well in practice I thought. He just kind of babied the throw because of how wide open Ty was. I think it kind of surprised him. De'Vion is a pleaser and he wants to help us any way he can. I've tried to encourage him this week and even Saturday night after the game I texted him and told him to keep his head up. We have to overcome the mental side of things. He's going to come back and keep working because that's the kind of player he is.

– Missouri's defense isn't ranked very high in the SEC in terms of the numbers, but their interior guys are good and the linebackers have a nose for the football. I just finished watching the Alabama game, and they challenge the receivers well. They fly around and hustle and they're violent. We've seen that kind of defense before. We can't start slow.
