Haff named to preseason All-SEC team

Mary Haff pitches against Wichita State Sunday May 20, 2018 during the NCAA Regional Softball Tournament at Bogle Park in Fayetteville.

Arkansas sophomore Mary Haff was named on Thursday as one of three first-team pitchers on the preseason All-SEC team released by the league office.

The right-hander from Winter Haven, Fla., had a 29-7 record and 1.51 ERA last year as an integral part of the Razorbacks’ run to the NCAA Norman Super Regional.

Haff, a top-three finalist for the Schutt Sports/NFCA national freshman of the year award, earned Freshman All-SEC and second-team All-SEC honors last season.

Haff joined Auburn senior Makayla Martin and Florida senior Kelly Barnhill as the pitchers on the 14-member preseason All-SEC squad.

Arkansas went 42-17 in coach Courtney Deifel’s third season last year and won the NCAA Fayetteville Regional before losing in two games to No. 4 Oklahoma in the super regional.

The Razorbacks, picked to finish fifth in the SEC in voting by league coaches, open the season on Feb. 8 against Campbell at the Cowgirl Classic in Lake Charles, La., which also features games against host McNeese State, Samford and Lipscomb. Arkansas’ home opener is Feb. 21 against Southeast Missouri State at Bogle Park.
