NWA Touchdown Club will not meet in 2019

Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek speaks at the Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at Mermaids restaurant in Fayetteville.

— The Northwest Arkansas Touchdown Club will not meet this season, according to a press release sent Tuesday.

Bo Mattingly, president of Sport & Story which oversees the club, said that a shift in his company's direction has taken away time necessary to focus on the club. Mattingly's company began focusing on documentary-style miniseries and podcasts earlier this year.

In February, Mattingly ended his popular radio show after 11 years. He began an Arkansas Razorbacks-related podcast in March, and next month will debut an 18-part series on ESPN platforms that follows the football program at Kansas.

“The Touchdown Club has been a labor of love for our staff for many years and has been embraced by the Northwest Arkansas community," Mattingly wrote. "Unfortunately, as we’ve made this shift, the time and resources required to run the Touchdown Club at an optimal level are just no longer available."

The club has meet weekly during football seasons since it was founded in 2010. The club was originally created by a group of local businessmen before Mattingly's company assumed ownership in 2012.

Tuesday's press release stated the club plans a return in the fall of 2020.
