Razorback soccer collects 3 individual awards, 6 All-SEC honors

— After a dominant Southeastern Conference campaign, Arkansas dominated the SEC postseason awards that were announced Sunday.

The Razorbacks, who won their first ever conference championship and first division title in 23 years, claimed three individual awards and six all-conference honors.

Forwards Parker Goins and Anna Podojil, midfielder Taylor Malham and defender Haley VanFossen were voted to the SEC first team. Goalkeeper Katie Lund and defender Bryana Hunter were voted to the second team.

Arkansas’ Colby Hale was named SEC coach of the year. Hale led the Razorbacks to a 14-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 SEC record during the regular season after Arkansas was picked to finish sixth in the league by coaches during the preseason.

Podojil, who finished second in the SEC in goals (12) and points (30), was named freshman of the year. VanFossen was co-defender of the year with South Carolina’s Grace Fisk.

Prior to Sunday, Arkansas’ only postseason individual SEC award came in 1993 when Honey Marsh was named the league’s player of the year.

VanFossen earned first-team honors for the second time. Goins, who has scored nine goals and has nine assists this season, earned her second All-SEC honor. She was on the league’s second team as a freshman in 2017.

The Razorbacks have earned 16 first- or second-team all-conference honors in eight seasons under Hale.

Arkansas is scheduled to play in the SEC Tournament on Tuesday at 5 p.m. against either Mississippi State or Ole Miss. The Razorbacks defeated both teams during the regular season by scores of 6-1 and 3-0, respectively.

Ole Miss and Mississippi State are scheduled to play in the tournament’s first round Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
