LSU week

Tuesday practice notes and observations

Arkansas hit the practice fields for the first time this week as it prepares for No. 1 LSU. A few notes from the open-viewing window:

• Arkansas’ defense worked primarily outside on the grass field while offensive players moved inside Walker Pavilion. John Chavis and defensive players went through their traditional position group drills then had class on grass with the 1s and 2s in the front seven.

• Razorbacks offensive players worked inside, and we were not allowed to watch them. KJ Jefferson, John Stephen Jones and Nick Starkel were indoors, and Ben Hicks ran with the scout team offense against the first-team defense. He threw a number of incomplete passes, and one ball was intercepted by free safety Joe Foucha.

Running back Chase Hayden, who Chad Morris said several weeks ago would redshirt after playing in four games this season, was also with the scout team.

• No changes for Arkansas on the defensive side of the ball. Gabe Richardson, McTelvin Agim, TJ Smith and Mataio Soli made up the D-line while De’Jon Harris and Bumper Pool manned the linebacker spots. In the secondary, Jarques McClellion and Montaric Brown worked the corners, and Kam Curl and Foucha played the safety positions. Freshman Greg Brooks was at Nickel.

On this week’s depth chart there is an OR between McClellion and LaDarrius Bishop, but McClellion, at least today, looks to be the guy at that corner spot. I also did not see linebacker Hayden Henry run against the scout team. Pool looked to be moving fine this afternoon, but Grant Morgan spelled him the second time the first-team defense came onto the field.

• Second-team defense: Jamario Bell, Jonathan Marshall, Isaiah Nichols and Collin Clay made up the defensive line, Andrew Parker and Deon Edwards were at linebacker, Micahh Smith played Nickel, the corners were Britto Tutt and LaDarrius Bishop, then in the defensive backfield, Myles Mason and Brenden Young manned the two safety positions.

• There was a little bit of music at practice mixed in with crowd noise. Barry Lunney Jr. took away music from Arkansas’ practices last week.
