Arkansas blanks Ole Miss for 9th shutout

— Four days after allowing its first goal in conference play, the No. 15 Arkansas soccer team pitched another shutout Thursday.

Tori Cannata, Haley VanFossen and Parker Goins all scored as Arkansas defeated Ole Miss 3-0 at Razorback Field. The shutout was Arkansas’ eighth in nine games and ninth this season.

The Razorbacks (9-2-1, 3-1-0 SEC) won for the 16th time in 18 games on its home field.

Cannata scored her third goal of the season in the 17th minute to give Arkansas the lead and VanFossen added her first goal on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute to put the Razorbacks ahead 2-0 at halftime.

Goins scored her sixth goal in the 90th minute on a long assist from Anna Podojil. Goins tied Podojil for the team lead in goals and passed Podojil for the team lead with 20 points.

Podojil has assisted on three of Goins’ six goals.

The Razorbacks out-shot Ole Miss 24-13, including 8-1 on goal. Arkansas goalkeeper Katie Lund recorded her only save in the 57th minute on a shot by Lonnie Mulligan.

Arkansas was out-shot in all of its conference games prior to Thursday.

Ole Miss (7-3-2, 1-1-2) suffered its first conference loss. The Rebels were coming off a 1-0 victory over Auburn that was the Tigers’ first in conference play.

Arkansas and Auburn are one-half game out of first place in the SEC entering the weekend.
