Razorbacks plan to redshirt running back Hayden

Chase Hayden, Arkansas running back, carries in the second quarter vs Colorado State Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas intends to redshirt running back Chase Hayden, according to Razorbacks coach Chad Morris.

“Right now with where we are at with our running back position, he’s already played in his four games,” Morris said Wednesday on the SEC coaches teleconference. “Our plan right now is to try to redshirt him if we can.”

The junior has not played since Arkansas’ Week 4 home loss to San Jose State. He returned one kickoff for 18 yards in the game and was ruled out the following week against Texas A&M (concussion protocol).

Hayden’s name was removed from the depth chart at running back ahead of Saturday’s game against Mississippi State. Redshirt junior T.J. Hammonds is listed as the third-team tailback behind Rakeem Boyd and Devwah Whaley.

Hayden totaled 39 rushing yards on 12 carries in four games this season.

He rushed for 251 yards and one touchdown on 57 touches in 2018.
