Arkansas upsets No. 1 North Carolina

Arkansas players celebrate following a 2-0 victory over No. 1 North Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019, in Fayetteville.

— Arkansas scored two goals in the second half and upset No. 1 North Carolina 2-0 on Sunday at Razorback Field.

It was Arkansas' first win over a No. 1-ranked team, but fifth win over a top 10 team in the past four seasons.

Freshman Anna Podojil scored in the 63rd minute to put the Razorbacks ahead 1-0, and junior Parker Goins added a goal in the 81st minute to put Arkansas ahead 2-0.

It was only the 26th time in program history (965 games) that North Carolina had trailed by two goals in a game.

The Razorbacks were out-shot 12-10 by the Tar Heels. Both teams had three shots on goal.

Arkansas (6-1-1) won its fifth consecutive game, all by shutouts. The Tar Heels (7-1) lost for the first time since last season's NCAA championship game against Florida State.

The Razorbacks defeated North Carolina for the first time in the fourth meeting between the programs.

The win was Arkansas' second over a ranked opponent this week. The Razorbacks defeated No. 22 Baylor 2-0 on Thursday to snap the Bears' NCAA-leading home win streak of 15 games.

Arkansas is scheduled to host Alabama next Sunday in its Southeastern Conference opener.
