Answering the concept of what Arkansas’ running razorback would look like from the front, Nike unveiled a secondary logo for the Razorbacks on this date six years ago.

The “forward-facing hog,” as the design would become known, was the result of a two-year project between Arkansas and Nike that also resulted in an altered shade of cardinal red on the Razorbacks’ jerseys and the creation of word marks used by Arkansas’ athletics department.

Nike created similar secondary forward-facing logos at Georgia and UConn around the same time, and many noted similarities between the new logo and an existing one at Arkansas State, which was not affiliated with Nike.

A press release said the designs at Arkansas were created with input from players, alumni and athletics staffers.

The Razorbacks’ secondary logo and word marks have been incorporated some into most of the game-day jerseys used by the 19 teams on campus, as well as on signage and playing surfaces around campus. It is featured on a number of Arkansas-related apparel items sold by Nike.
